Our Mexico trip. Fish over 100 lb..

We left SLC at 4:00 on the 14 of May and stopped of at BASS PRO Shop for some last min. lures then on to Bly Cal. for the night…
The next morning we got to Calexico and met up with the rest of our group and headed to Mexico..There was a lot of road work along the way witch slowed us down some, we got to San Felipe Baja Mexico about 3:00 and loaded our things on the ship..

The next morning we headed out of port and was south bound for the fishing grounds…
We travailed all day and all night and by 7:00 was unloading the pangas and getting ready to fish…

The first morning of fishing was slow very slow so when we came back to the mother ship to eat we moved south for about 4 more hours then went fishing again, It was slow and not the numbers or size of fish so we moved south all that night as well..

The next morning we went out and found a few more fish and heard of a reef from another boat and headed for it, we found it and as we pulled up to the other boat they was fighting a good yellow tail… The wind was blowing a little and as they was getting the anchor set a few of us was dropping a bait down, the bottom was about 280’ to 300’ deep but we had fish as soon as we hit bottom…

Some stayed on the ship to fish and others went in the pangas, both me and the guide was fishing and in 4 hours we boated over 160 spotted sea bass and I got to hook a Mako shark and my 100 lb line was cut by its teeth as soon as I set the hook, but it was fun to try any way…

Every one was catching fish, Jack who road down with me got the biggest fish of all a 56 kilo Grouper that was 58" long and 60" around “what a fish”…

We left to catch some live bait and came back for the next morning fishing at the same spot, witch was just as great or better the next morning …We moved closer to the place to catch the hum bolt squid witch we fish at night..

We would fish and move fish and move each day and some time we fished at night as well, lost track of time or what day it was with all the fishing and catching, my oldest boy even hooked a fish and had a sea Lion try to take the fish away and got hooked on the side of its head and he got to fight the sea lion for over 40 mins. before the hook pulled out…

Big fish small fish weird fish was caught by all with stories to tell till next years trip… If we can wait till then, The ship leaves the dock each sunday…How long would it take to re pack???[;)]

This is about 1/2 of the pictures …

Looks like it was a really fun trip! how much does a trip like that cost? I will have to try and talk my wife into goint an a trip like that! [;)]

Cliff,
Looks like another great trip. Thanks for sharing. Beginning to think you spend too much time in Mexico, I need to releive you of some of your Mexican duties. Great Pics, looks like fun.

Those groupers are crazy big. How long was the fight on that one? They kind of look like a giant bass…

Very nice Cliff

Nice way to practice your CPR

looks like a lot of fun.

I might be doing that in two weeks. I am going on a business trip and will probably stay an extra day to fish.

Thanks for taking time to post the pic’s.

A trip like that runs about $890.00 + tips for five days…

Jack said the fight lasted only 40 mins. or so…

Fun stuff! Fishing pangas is a blast. We fish pangas out of La Paz. Fly into Cabo from SLC and bus for 3 hours to La Paz. The Sea of Cortez rocks for variety and quantity. Fishing Utah is hard when you’re waiting to go on your next salt water trip!

You ought to try long ranging out of San Diego. That a blast too.
