what’s you’re wonderful hot spots Nick, the oh so wonderfull Hyrum Dam. How’s that town smellin these days, I had to move clear to Franklin to get away from that stink cloud.![]()
Franklin you moved to Franklin arent you still surrounded by cow crap? I hope that worked out for ya. And the hyrum damn joke I would much go there for bass than ONEIDA for carp[;)]. I do most of my fishing out of the valley depending on the species I am after. If I told ya I would be to afraid of you going there and realizing its much better than fishing that carp hole your at. Hey good to talk to ya hows buddy?
Thanks for the responses! Sounds like most of you fish below the dam. I was interested in the ice report up there. My guess is soft edges by now. bassattttic your full of B.S. plus I’m the stinky carp queen!lol

i would imagine its still good ice.
I made the trip up there yesterday (Sunday) and thre a line for a little bit. Only managed one Rainbow, but at least I got one huh? First time fishing since around November. Posted a report on the Utah Board. Didnt venture up to see the ice on the lake, but I cant wait for it to be gone so I can go after the “eyes”. We did really good last fall for them so hoping for the same result this spring.

i think i am going to go in the morning when i get off work and try for some eyes down river and if i dont get anything, maybe i will go up and try below the damn.
Do you fish the res, from a boat? I tried it from shore a couple times last year and only landed 1 eye and 1 smallie. If you ever need some company up there let me know. I love fishing for the eyes just havnt had much luck in the lakes, sense i dont have a boat.
Jigs,
I usually fish from my (sold it to my brother kochanut) boat, but I have fished from shore on the dam. I have done very well both ways. That place is a honey hole for SMB and Walleye with very little pressure (knock on wood for this year). Here are a couple posts from this past fall.

Let me know if you go and let me know when the ice comes off and I will head up with the boat. Thanks

very nice smallies, you get any size to the walleyes up there, down below i get good onces but i have only ever caught small males from the lake.
OK went up the narrows yet again seen some bald eagles very sweet to check them out yet another winter.. I didnt get any eyes everyone i talked to hasnt even landed one yet (jumping the gun i think for the spawn) but did managed one very nice bow for the narrows didnt put a tape to hit but 1.5lbs what my scale said… water is very very low 270’s i think it said, and what i havnt seen in a long time was the power plant was totally shut off the little stream under the meddle bridge was a “river” today lol.. done very good on the trout at the plant but yet no eyes…
Ma, went to check the dam out for you, no one on it looks like it could be good out a ways, the edges where soft but yet it was 42 degrees today sooo. Roads are good rocks down on the road but little muddy spots but easy access no need for the 4x4.
Any cutt is good for the narrows. Did you get any browns, i usualy do pretty good for them this time of year. I think the walleyes are going to be a bit late. We were catching them the last couple years by now. But cutler still has alot of ice on it and from everything i have read and heard water temp is a big thing for them.
trout-slayer i get the impression you are on the AF base in utah.If you wont to catch eyes in idaho you need to fish salmon dam. Great walleyes and plenty of them.
no browns today but wife landed one nice one at the bridge Saturday… bout the same size as my bow today…
Yep, you are right as far as me being stationed here at Hill AFB Utah. I would like to travel up there and try for the Walleye at Salmon, but time is going ot be an issue with me. I am deploying to Afgahnistan soon so if I can make it up there it better be soon, so that mean the ice needs to melt a little quicker.
TS
Jigs,
You heard right about the water temp for the Walleye. Anything around 46*-54* will get the Walleye into spawn mode!!! So we do have a while, BUT you can still catch them. Like I said before, if you are up at the dam and the ice is off let me know, I will drag the boat up and we can go for a few on the lake!!!
TS
Bum deal slayer, was looking forward to your bass reports @ Glendale n Condie. If you dont mind me asking what do you usually use for the Eyes on the dam up the narrows pm me or whatever you feel. thanks and be safe!!!
How about you let me know when the ice is off the lake and I will take you out and show you!!![;)]
TS
hehe that works im up there A LOT!!! went up today and looks like we got a while…But I’m good count me in..
you say a while, but how long is a while? Couple weeks, maybe first of April???
TS
All up to these temps man, Mink Creek (narrows) can get cold as ever one night and warm the other. with this next weeks temps all in the low 40’s high 30’s Id give it to the middle/end of march at the earliest!!! If not the first days of April…
Hope this helps…
It is almost 11:00 PM and it is 40 Degrees out side now . It was up to 52 most of the afternoon . They are predicting rain the next 3 days with wind . The point I am trying to make is this is Idaho . You could have open water in 10 days or a cold snap could hit us next week and we will be ice fishing for a while longer. Curt G.
