I had time to fish for a while after I got off work today. Just grabbed from frozen Silversides from there, along with a couple big dead goldfish. Went down to the Jordan at a big hole I know, and casted in.
Caught three Channel cats in the hour and a half I fished. The third and final one… Wow. 32" long, massive girth. My scale said 24 pounds. I dunno if it’s right or not. My best eye judgement was around 20. I’ll take the extra four though. lmao For proof…

The girth of the fish was phenominal. Easilly 20" around. I was so excited I forgot to measure it, though.
This is easilly the biggest Channel cat I’ve caught. Right in good old SLC. She’s still swimmin, too. I ain’t eatin no fish from this neck of the woods lol
Congrats! That is one huge Channel! 8# test is the ‘absolute minimum’ for kitty fishing, I’m sure the pros in here will agree.
I used to fish the Jordan a long time ago with my grandpa and we’d catch tons of ‘cookie cutter’ channels. We’d take 'em home and fry 'em up. Back then it was safe! And they were better tasting than trout if you can believe that.
Thank ya. I usually use a lot heavier. Been doin a lot of multi species fishin as of late, though. Easier to keep 8 on the big rods.
I can definately believe they’re better than trout. Above 106th south and I’d probably have kept them. 45th, though… Na. Too much trash and polution there lol
With the numbers you listed 32 inches length and a 20 inch girth that would put your fish at 17 lbs by this fish calculator, still a great fish no matter how you figure it.
