As the purpose of this thread points out, I have moved from Arizona and I am now in Utah. Any chance you might ever get up this way for some REEL fly fishing? Lots of great spots and big trout up here.

By the way, have you lost any rods lately? It was a good story about how you lost that one and got it back with the diver.

I use a rod leash all the time now.
I still have that cork, just in case you decide you want to change your handle after all.
I use the rod a lot now, I can feel a Mercury out board on the bottom. LOL

I forgot to ask, who is the maker on those boron rods? I have an 8 1/2 foot 5/6 weight that I have had forever, and I am thinking of adding a 10 footer to my float tubing arsenal. I think the light boron rod would probably help keep the weight and wind resistance down a bit.
I am betting that those die-hard fly flingers in California were probably talking about Strawberry Lake, here in Utah. With a new management program…including a closely watched slot size limit…the cutthroats have increased both in numbers and size. There are also some hefty rainbows in Strawberry and they all can be taken on flies. The fall of each year is fantastic as the fish all move closer and shallower. Ideal for float tubin’ and wavin’ the fairy wand.
So does this mean you be tuben for trout now, LOL
Up there in the lakes they love Matura’s and Hornbergs, Chili Peppers
just to name a few fly’s to use with a sinking tip line.
The VFB list is full of fly swaps that keep in something to do.
After you have tied 20 of the same fly you get the gist of how to tie it,
and can tie one six months later without looking at the recipe.
One thing I like is it pushes me to tie when I would other wise not.
Fly tying is something you need to practice al lot.

Since they were the first fish of my youth, in Idaho, I have always kept a spot in my heart for them. It’s hard to get excited about trout fishing, however, when the fish are all hatchery pets with no fins and no sense. The only use for them in Arizona was as food for the big bass in the local lakes.
Nice pics of the flies. It’s good you have something to keep you off the streets and out of trouble in between trips. You are doing some nice work.
