Nice Bass

:sunglasses: Hey nice catch I love to fish for bass and bluegills sounds like a great trip for sure thanks for sharing with us

Not much of a trip it is only a five minute walk from my house.

wow thats even better only 5 mins for me the closest place to catch a largemouth bass or bluegill is about 3 1/2hrs away

Caught an even bigger one on Saturday. Fought so hard I thought he was a carp at first. About 13-15" long but a ultra huge girth (full of bluegill minnows and bread I’m sure), I am going to say 3 pounds and maybe even 4.

That’s my size 7 shoe for comparison.

Right on! Looks like you are on to something.

and we all say they are bigger than they are… don’t we.
DON’T WE… lol
that one that got away was 15 pounds!
love this thread.

+1 - I mean that’s how I report all my measurements +1

Fly fishing is all well and good, but there’s all kinds and styles of fishing. I don’t subscribe to the notion that one is ā€œbetterā€ than another. Equal opportunity angler here - I’m just game to try all I can.

Spinners work great for bass. This is a smallish bass I nabbed on one of my home-made CoyoteCapSpinners.

Always a kick to hook up with something home-made.
Are you pitching curly tails on that jig? I’ve come to really like the football headed jigs with a big fat plastic craw. Shakyheads.

Most of these secret spots are community fisheries, stocked by DWR. They have strict limits of 2 fish, but you can catch and release all you want. Most of the fish are pretty small, but there are some good ones from time to time. Utah lake has a good population that will respond to your desires to keep a mess if you desire !!

I caught the bass while fishing for bluegill with the smallest tubes they have in the store.

Bass are addicting, be careful and watch the wallet![;)]

Splitting hairs flyfishing lover…What does it matter to you if its 2, 3 or 10 lbs? I will.never get why some people always chime in with totally worthless comments like questioning the weight of a fish. Pretty easy to see why some people shy away from posting pictures and corresponding weights. Who cares… It’s a great fish no matter what it weighs.

And look, FFL was right. I think someone owes FFL an appology.

People who claim weights should have a digital scale. I do, and trust me I was SHOCKED that my trout are usually under 1lb.

If you cannot not handle someone questioning your claim then internet forums may not be for you. If you actually take a tape measure with a scale and you report what it was then why would you even need to get upset about what some random dude on the internet told you about you fishy pic?

Who’s upset? I was simply stating the fact that people are quick to correct others on a fishes weight. seems like a pretty good waste of time.

If they shy away from reporting a fish’s dimensions after being called out in it than that is upset.

FFL was just calling it like he saw it. No harm in that. I too had some serious doubts of the weight of that fish. The original poster maned up and admitted that he didn’t weigh it. Good for him!

I agree. I bet out of the first 20 3 lbs fish (in my opinion)I caught in my life maybe 5 would have broke the 2 lbs limit. Hard to judge with all the excitement. A digital scale is a must.

This comment should work both ways, you know. People say the sky is green and you know it isn’t. I like the fact that TDT mentioned he was surprised to find he miss guessed weight. Think about a 5lb fish, then pick up a 5 lb bag of sugar or a jogging weight.
That is a nice Bass, no guessing there.

I’m not. I’ve seen your pix with all them spotty scrawny Mnt troutlings! [:p]

And even if you DO have a scale, lot more potential mis-reads, wiggly fish, mis-held, harder on the fish (unless they’re in a bag/basket) - that is if they’re going to be released. I’ve usually only bothered to weight fish I’ve brought home.

And here-in the reason I stick to LENGTH measures for contest entries. Easier to stay consistent, unless you have one of them ā€œfishermanā€ rulers.

hope I don’t have to pull out a Grumpy Cat on this post! IBTL?

Seems like most fish hit a tipping point where they don’t grow so fast lengthwise, but start putting on the girth, and the weight. In particular some of my favored panfish - start getting taller faster than longer.
