I ma taking a bunch of Scouts fishing next Saturday and want to know where I should go close. I fished at the pumphouse last week at UL and did okay a lot of bites. However, the ice was only about 3 inches fishing directly next to the west side of the house. I don’t want to take my chances it has been relatively warm. They are camping up AF Canyon. Was wondering if anyone has ever ice fished Tibble Fork? Does it freeze? Anyone know what the ice is like. I would like to take them close. My next alternative is Deear Creek any ice or fishing reports there? Thanks in advance.
There are warm springs in Tibble and ice fishing there is dangerous.
Tibble is fine for one person, but as posted, to controll kids and avoid danger would be impossiable. Pineview is awesome, Small fish and plenty of em, safe ice and not a whole lot of walking. anything glow small small tipped with perch works awesome. Bottom 1 " off floor is where they are. Small, but fun n a ton.

They are camping the night before up American Fork Canyon. I am thinking that I want to stay closer. Any news on Deer Creek. Pineview is kind of a drive from Draper for kids.
Deer creek would be a good option. Lots of hungry bows. If you have a power auger go to the provo river arm. More ice there. If not you could fish around the island.
How deep is the ice? Is the Provo river arm by the dam?
10-12 inches in the provo river arm and that is where the provo dumps into the reservoir on the east end. Its 4 inches on the rest of the lake.
So the by the dam as you get up the canyon? Is that correct?
I think he said the other end of the resivoir where the river comes into deer creek. I agree with the above replies on Tibble Fork. It is a very dangerous lake to try ice fishing So I would definitely opt for Deer Creek.
I was just at Deer Creek on Sunday at Rainbow Bay, out in about 40 ft of water, got lot of bites and saw lot of fish just off the bottom, look to be mostly Perch. Ice is a good 5 inches thick I would say.
Did you see anybody getting perch? Last year I didnt see a lot caught but the ones that I did see were really big perch. Would love to beat up a few perch that size this year
if the weather holds, and camping isn’t a for sure thing, why not just pack your kids up the morning of and drive them over to willow pond in murray? The fishing was good yesterday. lots of smaller fish, but saw a few of the bigger ones cruising just under the hole. maybe five inches of ice. pretty close ice opportunity
Where is Ranibow Bay?
Here is a map of Deercreek. The three main areas folks are commenting on are Rainbow bay, the island, and Provo River arm. You can see Rainbow bay and the island on the map. The Provo River arm is on the east end where the river runs into deercreek. Go all the way to the end of deer creek and turn towards Charleston on SR 113.

I usually go to the pump house 2 or 3 times a week, including today, and I don’t think it was 3 inches right by the pump house last week. I put my hand in the hole today and it was 9-10 inches. However, I will agree that it has been warm and the ice there is very creeky and freaked me out today. The bites were very lite and slower than normal today.
I too would say that Deer Creek is a better option. I fished by the river inlet two weeks ago and did okay (4 bows in 4 hours), but it looks like there have been several reports for the Island, Rainbow Bay, and Wallsburg Bay recently. Here is a map of Deer Creek that TubeDude posted recently.

Thanks for the info. Nonetheless, unless it gets really cold I probably won’t be visiting the pumphouse too much. I am hoping foran arctic freeze. So far it has been pretty mild. I want to settle in with one place with the scouts so I amy just fish the island. The last ew yers that has been slow any ideas where they may be biting aroud the island at Deer Creek?
I did some recon work last Friday and talk to two groups leaving the island area. The first had success near the no-wake buoys just NW of the boat ramp. And I also spoke to another BFTer and he was past the buoys and working around the island itself. The ice was still only 3 to 3 1/2 inches at the time, so I would drill a test hole or two before letting the boys go loose. The ice in the river inlet area, as has been said, is a good 8-10 inches.
Personally, if I were to take my Varsity scouts, I would go to the river inlet. The thicker ice would make me stress a little bit less. But I am new at it and I also have a few boys with listening issues. [:/]

I think I will go to the inlet. That is proably the safer bet.
