Not too long of a post: First, I give many thanks to my buddy Ben: never would’ve hooked and landed these monsters without you. Thanks for the fun and memorable expedition. Always good company!
Couldn’t have asked for a better day. I knew it was going to be a good day when I found a brand new pair of needle-nose pliers just before dawn. (If anyone here lost them, PM me with a description and I’ll gladly return them.)
Ben and I got into the perch and smaller bass at first…with Ben boating a decent sized bass (at least for me it was decent; he said it was tiny and threw it back). Also, he started the fiesta off right by hooking into a nice TM that promptly spit the hook out. Another one followed his lure to the boat and I knew it was just a matter of time. We moved to another area and soon BAM! not a bad 36" TM. Then I started to get into them: my next one was my biggest ever @ 39" and approx. 20lbs. and put the ‘bendo’ on my ugly stick.Unfortunately, I think this was the one that tore up Ben’s net. Sorry!! My last one measured a mediocre 37". They all looked healthy with a hefty girth. Could have boated another three but the toothy gators didn’t want to play nice and spit the hook out at me.
Yeah - cuz if you go with the Coyote you’ll only find baby catfish, mudbugs and mini-carp! Dawg!
So - where’s my invites texts hoser! New Avatar - I figured THAT was a matter of time. Nicely done bro! Now THAT’s a respectable fish!
Really. Maybe it’s time for a bigger net!
So - blue fox - right? Ah - what else!!!
But what’s with the 6lb buddy?! Tuffen up - get a good string out there! That water’s still pretty warm for those lunkers. You don’t have a scale do ya? But I’d guestimate your estimate is about on. Those Newton muskies are well fed!
So - what - no perch? I wanna see some phat perch, screw the fish ya gotta release! Show me the tacos!!!
Naw, everyone knows what a bitty perch looks like. Waste of camera memory.
Like I’ve told you before Coyote, you can catch just about any fish in Utah with 6 lb. test. That braided line stuff ain’t for me. Messes with the presentation IMO.
Velveeta tipped with marsh mellows. [:p] (I’ll send you a PM).
Go early, I had to deal with 4 ski boats and a probably 8 boats all together that afternoon, not bad but the lake can’t handle too many boats when it’s low.
I should have taken a picture. The water level is right at the base if the boat ramp. Can’t use the ramp anymore but can still launch on the dirt/gravel right next to the ramp on the uphill side.
Waste of camera memory? A big old chunky perch, as coyote affectionately refers to them as, are way more of a trophy than any old big toothed carp…Well a more delicious trophy. Great job on the muskies!!
I fished for a couple hours in the afternoon spending a lot of time looking for some keeper perch. Caught a ton from several different schools, but never caught one over 8, biggest bass was just over a pound, and I had absolutely nothing in the Muskie department. The lake was all stirred up and chocolate milk when I was there and I suck at catching muskies anyways. I've only caught a couple while trying, most are on accident.
