I just received my new Nils 6" hand auger. Why am I excited about a hand auger when I have a power auger you might ask? Weight and speed on the early season ice. From what I have seen the Nils is really fast. No reason to pack out the heavy power auger on the early ice. I am so excited I almost want to go buy a block of ice to try it on.[;)]

I bought a Eskimo six inch auger last year just for that reason. I really wanted a better one, but thats what my budget let me afford. I had shoulder surgery two years ago, so I already have a Ice gator electric auger, which works really good and will drill as many holes as I want to, on a normal outing. I am excited for ice on, I just don’t have enough time to fish in the summer
Now an ice Gator is awesome. No exaust or smoke. That may be what I save for when my power auger falls apart some day.

I like my Ice Gator a lot, but there were a few bugs that I had to work out when I got it. I have drilled as many as 35 holes through 16" of ice and it didn’t even start to slow down, but that was with a 6’ auger. Sometimes I get to involved in drilling holes and forget to watch the poles.

Now if that were taken out of context and I didn’t KNOW you were talking about ice fishing - might raise a few eyebrows!

So where do you plug it in? How heavy is the generator?
Do you have to swap out the battery over time? I’ve yet to meet a rechargable with real staying power!
Last year I made an adapter for my 7 inch Strike Master that allowed me to attach my Ridgid R86007 18V Compact Lithium Ion Drill - Power Pistol Grip Drills - Amazon.com cordless drill do it. Worked great! Other than the fact that my batteries were not up to snuff. I have new batteries on the way now (they were under a lifetime warranty). I expect to have great success with it this year.
The Ice gator uses two 12 volt batteries hooked in series to give it twenty four volts, it really has a lot of torque. I really never have ran out of battery since I worked out the bugs. But it does weigh 29 pounds, but I always have it in a sled, so I only lift it to drill the holes. It really does work nice. One of the bugs that was built into the auger was one of the battery charge cables wasn’t hooked to the right place so it wouldn’t charge the battery.

You prompted me to check on the availibility of the nils and Cabella’s Boise had a them. I choose the 8" my buddy has the 6". Trufully seeing it work last year sold me.
My gas auger died and so far I have not been able to get it fixed, since to motor is discontinued and the company no longer exsists, parts are very difficult to find and if you do slow in comming.
This new Nils should take care of things[fishin]

i have a nils and it screams thru it. for the price its nothing to do 18 inches. i missed putting the cover on once and it sliced me. still have the scar to show for it. best hand auger for sure.
