'Nelle or East Canyon?

Planning a fishing outage with the family this weekend. Will possibly have a 5 year old that would like to catch a fish. I was thinking of going to Jordanelle or East Canyon. Which would you prefer? and why?
BTW this will be fishing from the shore line, no boat for me… yet.

Just for a thought I was at rockport today and me and my ten year old caught some fish trolling today and noticed a lot of people catxhing fish from shore with a clear bubble and rainbow powerbait not the nelle or east canyon but just a thought

Thanks for the reply. Rockport is a good place, that is where the family outing has gone to the last few weeks. I wanted to change it up a bit. Plus my brother has yet to catch anything at Rockport this year and he is determined now that there are no fish left there haha.

Since nobody is talking (at least on the forum, you might have gotten PM’s) I would recommend the nelle. I hear good things about the SMB action near the inlet at Rock Cliff arm from fisherman at the shops and the forums.

I spoke with a fisherman at Mantua that said he picked up a SMB at East Canyon but I hear some guys get around 40 SMB’s at the nelle. At the nelle I would recommend the drop shot method although being on shore kinda limits you ability to catch fish. At least around the nelle there is the porvo river too.

I love SMB’s and all but since you cannot really eat them (consumption advisory) at the nelle I don’t go there.

Rockport was great over the winter and in June I had some luck with the SMB’s but once the water levels rose back up my action suddenly stopped and I quit going there. Hope it helps.

Jordanelle for sure! We hammered the smallies from the shore a few weeks ago. Wish I had my boat that day…

Thank you for the reply. I appreciate all of the feedback
I snagged 2 trout from Rockport around the end of June but no luck since then. I fished East Canyon last year and got a few SMB. I will try Jordanelle for sure  Thank you again.
