I just completed my new rod holder for carrying my ice rods out on the ice. Because I own the Jed Sled Jr., Jet Sled and the Jet Sled XL I wanted to make a rod holder that I could move from sled to sled. Depending on the type of fishing I am doing, the weather and ice conditions I choose one of the three sleds to drag out on the ice. I ended up making a double-row rod holder because a single rod holder could only accomodate four rods and still fit on the Jet Sled Jr. With two rows I can carry nine rods with ease, which should be plenty for me and a couple grandkids. I realize many anglers get by with one or two rods, but I like to have a wide selection of rods already rigged with different options and ready to go.
Good looking rod holders Kent, you’ll be able yo put it to use at the Burbot Bash[;)].
Lookin’ good.
I dub thee the new “Prince of PVC”.
One rod holder doesn’t make one a prince, but thanks from the kind words from the PVC King. I’m sure that I violated several of your patents in making it – hope you don’t mind.
“I’m sure that I violated several of your patents in making it – hope you don’t mind.”
All my stuff is “Pat Pending”. No violations. No worries.
I do claim some originality in coming up with a few of the concepts, but they are always open to the creativity and personal requirements of anybody else who wants to use them.
I like it! Is this 1/2 Sch. 40 PVC?
I was just thinking the other day.. “I need to build a rod holder to ride on the back of my sled.”
I only have the JS1, so I won’t have to put as much thought into it. It will only have to fit on that one sled.
Very nice, I am now motivated to go complete mine… My wife will be grateful for some additional PVC dust in the garage
I keep telling her it is just my way of providing “holiday snow” for the Christmas tree…

If that is the standard 1/2" PVC then yes.
Great idea! That my project this week.
Great idea! I may do something like that also. My biggest problem right now is getting my cousin to slow down the snowmobile when towing the Jet Sleds out to the spot. I tell him to slow down because that way when he rolls my Jet Sled I don’t have to look to far to find all my stuff.
My short term solution, as I went on a real roll there breaking 2 poles in two trips, is to have all my poles in one bag, which I carry WITH ME instead of having them in the sled. Seems like if it goes in the sled and is breakable…it will break.
We hitting Pelican this year again? I’m in. I’d also be down for a Flaming Gorge Burbot trip.

To keep from being gobbled up by the slush monster at the Berry, Bait_Caster goes “Full Throttle” all the way out to our hole. Here is my solution to keeping our rods safe:

It’s a arrow case (as in bow & arrow) from Sportsmans. I modified it slightly to hold ice rods.

Ralph i use a case like you do but mine is a shotgun case to carry my larger mack rods in. the twins ride in comfort
Now that you mention it Jason, I remember actually getting the idea from your larger case.
A couple of changes to Kent’s design. I don’t need eight holders so only used the one row design. I also put on two holders at the ends that are almost horizontal so you can use them to fish as well.
Kory, looking good. A couple suggestions. If you make an oval cut out of the top of the holders on the outside the reels will stay facing toward the back of the sled instead of twisting from side to side. Be sure the tubing pointed down isn’t so long that it will sometimes catch on the snow and ice.
I made the notches after taking the picture. I will have to check on the tubing about catching the ice. Thanks
Kent,
Watch for the cantilever of the second row of rods. The bottom of the rods may hit on the ground when you are going over ridges and such.
You could add a couple of 45 degree fittings to elevate the second row of rods from the first, that would help.
My design fits inside my sled and is not glued so that I can rotate the holders down to place my ice tent on top of the sled for transport.
Here is a photo of my set-up.
I had to use 3/4" thin wall PVC, the thick wall schedule 400 has to small of an inside diameter to fit some of my rods into.
I think that I am Ok, but I will watch it.
I bet my pictures would look better if they had a beer in them like yours troll [;)].

Not sure if it’d look better, but it’ll taste great! Uh, I mean - less filling…
I know this is an old post to respond to, but . . .
wonder how you guys have done with your designs, new advances in PVC technology?
So Kory - with those angled rods - are you able to troll with that setup?[:p]
