I spent July 24th at Fish Lake. While hanging out at Bowery ramp one evening I saw a Muskie in the harbor just cruising around the docks. A few other people saw it also.
I am not a Fish Lake expert so can anyone share any info?
The muskies come down from Johnson Reservoir, which is downstream from Fish Lake. There’s not very many of them, but they are there.
There are two different stories going around. One is that some have entered Fish Lake by swimming upstream from Johnson’s Reservoir. Another group claims that there was a mix up once and a stocking truck accidentally planted tigers in Fish Lake that were meant for Johnson’s Reservoir. The truth is in there somewhere, but whatever the story there are some tigers in Fish Lake.

Right stream but you have it flowing the wrong direction. Water flows from Fish Lake into Johnson’s Reservoir.
Well they should do very well with the amount of small perch in FL.

I was up there last summer and we were talking to the director of fish lake and they said that the truck driver drove around fish lake and then got to the marsh end of fish lake and thought they were at johnson. they also said that there have been Macs caught with bit marks. Theres more in there than they think

…nevermind. I like the conspiracy stuff better. It’s so much more interesting to know that someone “screwed up”, or that possibly they did it for their own personal benefit! Forget the possibility of a fish simply swimming upstream – that’s just too simple of an explanation…

Lets get the facts straight … no possession of tigers newton and PV … look on Utah spearfishing they have shot ALOT at fish lake.. actually they have had spearfishing tournaments for musky at fish lake. its no limit on tigers at fish lake, catch and keep or kill. I think they should put more in there haha its a great lake for em! Help out those stunted perch.

Wow. What a very uninformed comment. This is very disconcerting to me. I think that all accounts on BFT should be restricted until verification that the current fishing regulations have been read and a test passed:

Fish Lake falls under the general state wide regulations for Musky, which = 1 musky over 40". This includes spearfishermen who must also abide by the general regulations of 1 musky over 40". If they are spearing musky under 40", then they are doing so illegally.
Further, Johnson also falls under general regs on the harvest of musky (1 over 40"), however it has special regulations on the use of bait:

• Unlawful to use whole fish for bait. Cut
baitfish must not be larger than one inch in
any dimension and no more than one piece
per hook.

Kind of a problem, isn’t it? That’s my biggest issue with spearfishermen. How do they measure prior to shooting? Further, what do they do when they guess wrong, and spear a fish under the size requirement? sink it?
(also, just so we’re on the same page, in 2009 state wide regulation for tiger musky was 1 over 40". No special regulations on Fish Lake for tm’s.)
