Multiple Firsts at Round Lake

So I had the opportunity to make a quick half day hike up to Round Lake along the Dry Fork trail with my Dad. It wasn’t even a question of whether or not to go. I have never caught an Arctic Grayling and I knew they were in there.
We found the trail head easy enough and made pretty good time. If you have never done the hike there is a pretty good bump in elevation but nothing that will kill ya. We were at Round Lake before 9 and had rigged up the night before to make the most of the short trip.
We both started out with Black Gnats. My dad had two grayling on his first two casts. I was a little slower on the uptake but figured out the presentation eventually and started bringing them in on every cast. There were a few small brookies here and there but the majority of the action was from the graylings. They seemed to hit the most on black patterns including gnats, ants, some fuzzy no name. I was also getting quite a bit of action on an Adams. All in all a fantastic quick fishing trip. One that will need to be repeated soon. No better way to spend a wednesday morning than hiking in Gods country with your dad and catching fish at will.

That is one of my favorite places to hike into. There are three lakes, and each is a little different in its own way. Those fish are amazingly beautiful if you can catch them in the right light – they could easily be out of the ocean.

I’m jealous.

Love the pics, haven’t been up there in a while. Taking the kids and grand kids up the middle fork next week, now I’m going to be worthless (OK more worthless) at work this week…

One of my favorite areas in the Uintas. I need to get up there soon.

Great pics! Doesn’t look like you had mosquito problems

Bugs weren’t a problem at all. It really was a perfect trip.
