Went down to the same area - roughly - as last week and had similar results.
Worked some clear pools where I saw fish-shadows moving. Saw some long-lean fish, couldn’t decide if they were trout or walleye, so I kept an eye on them. Very skiddish, and quite the lockjaw.
Got some chases, nibbles, and tugs from some of the younglings - mostly green-sunfish, mixed in with some bass. Spotted a number of nice looking bass, but couldn’t taunt them to a bite.
Flung a bugger (on fly) a spinner, a jig - had a few bitty hookups.
Then realized the long-lean were indeed trout, of the brown-lockjaw variety.
Moved into more turbulent territory, and got into a bunch of footlong plus kitties, They were hitting pretty good as the bobber dragged the spinner blade/bead rig down through the current. - Ping - down she goes - time after time.
Things got pretty windy, so I walked down river behind a big boulder-outcrop. Nice eddy, and out of the wind. Got some ping-ping sunfish nibbles. All nestled up in the rocks.
Pitched a bit deeper, and /boom/ - a runner. Some shoulders and a 15 inch smallie came to play. Bit later hit up a smaller 11 inch - red-eye.
Had a number more small channels playing tug, and saw the risings and fallings of some nicer ones - as well as some gnarly carp.
Nice SMB you got there CYS! Sure that fought like hell. You gonna beer batter that puppy or what? Glad to hear you got some channel cats rather than those pesky mudders. The bear produces…I only fished there once, but we got Bass, Bluegill and tons of Crappie. Good Times!
Thanks for posting!
Nicely done! wish I could have stayed longer
The mother bear treated you right sir! Great job on the SMB and man I wish I had a consistant green sunfish hole near by.
Just gotta go a lookin!
Nice report! Looks like you still had a good day of fishing. This makes me want to try my hand with the Ol’ Bear River.
Way to go Andii- you got the fish of the day on that Cat there. I got nuthin but kittens - best was a 15", matching that bigger bass.
He was quite a surpise - heck I’m messing with dink sunfish, and that sucker takes my rig off the edge of the rocks, and runs! Yeah - that was fun! Saw some bigger cats rising and humping around- but couldn’t tempt a bite. It’ll come! Plenty of play with the kittens - and they still tug. Eyeballed some chunk bass - and those big browns.
Just wish I could find the next generation of sunfish - I’ve found hoards of these 6 and under dinks, and they’re entertaining because they are so small, getting a hookset is a real challenge. Caught some on a fly even! But not quite worth the time to filet…though they are fatter than your average bluegill at that size. Found some more in a little puddle along the Valley View on the way home. Mudcat too, so that upped the species list for the day. Wohoo!
Was chattin up one of the water-guys, and heard an even bigger cat had been landed by the bridge that day - pushing 10#s. Also informed me they have had some problems after hours - folks cutting wire (hello?! cutting wires at a power station, um - er - “here’s your sign!”) so the sheriff has been checking in after closing time. But there’s more river out there - did a bit more scouting…learned there’s another launch point before Corinne, so - have to check it out some. I was surprised how clear some of the lower bear was. Change in scenes.
Hey Yote nice smallie looks like a fun day. Good job. Later J

You asked - and you guessed it.
My wife is out of town, and my daughter wanted fried shrimp, so . . .

so shrimp, scallops, broccoli, and bass filet fingers - sprinkled with stuff, then battered. Flaky tender!
