I just heard from my Idaho sturgeon fishing buddy. On March 11th he took a newbie sturgeon fishing and the newbie caught his first sturgeon a 8 FOOT 10 INCH MONSTER! That fish would be around 50 years old, and weigh about 372 pounds, and perhaps more because she was full of eggs.
There is a report on the web, but in order to read it one must register with another site.
I sure hope she is hungry again when I fish up there in just a few more weeks!
If you want you can right click on the x box’s then go down to properties, this will bring up a web address, copy and paste that address into a new window, thats what i had to do to see the pictures
“…what is the state record for Idaho.” Because it has been illegal to even remove a sturgeon from the water for a number of years, all of the records are old. In 1956 a 394 pound sturgeon was caught with a rod and reel. In 1908 a 675 pound sturgeon was caught on a setline. I have also seen a photograph taken in 1898 showing a 1500-pound, 20-foot monster being dragged by a four-mule team onto a bank below Twin Falls.
WOW, Any links to the picture that a mule team was needed? Make a guy wonder who was more hard headed, the sturgeon or the mule team? But I guess we know, dont we? The fisherman
