Drove up to Mirror Lake today for a day trip. Left Davis County at 4:00 AM and headed to Kamas for breakfast burritos.
As we headed around the curve at the base of the Bald Mountain I couldn’t believe my eyes…8 mountain goats less than10 yards from the road. They didn’t seem to mind us at all. I took photo after photo and they kept munching on the grass. Very cool way to start the morning.
We fished on the West side of Mirror lake where the boardwalk ends. The fish were very active and took dry flies most of the day. Others in my group used spinners, spoons, and even flatfish while others used worms and mallows.
In years past it has been my experience to catch a lot of rainbows, and then later it seemed that albinos were the most popular catch. This year, however we caught 1 albino, 3 brooks, and around 2 dozen nice tiger trout. The action was pretty steady throughout the morning and early afternoon.
The recreation fee at Mirror Lake has been waived this weekend which made for a nice bonus too.
