For all those who cant wait another week. I read on another “Ice fishing site” that Mirror Lake has 6 inches of solid ice and is fishing well.
Its is to far for me (4 hour drive)but would like to hear if some BFTers
have gone there yet.
With the weather comming next week and the low temps
in the low 20’s we should have some ice around Thanksgiving I hope.[;)]
I am ready!![]()
Is mirror lake down by beaver?
Mirror Lake is in the Uinta Mountains on a road (Mirror Lake Highway) between Kamas, Utah and Evanston, Wyoming.
Ahh nice…thank you!!
Mirror Lake is East of Beaver off HWY 153.
Toadly,
There are, in fact, two lakes in Utah named ‘Mirror.’ The northern lake is at 10,000 feet elevationand the southern lake is at 9,500 feet. So both COULD have ice at the present time. Without knowing which lake the “other ‘Icefishing site’" was reporting on, then either one of them could be it.
Yep you are correct! with a little looking ( on Google Maps) I found the Uinta Lake called Mirror. Wow it looks cool.
I went to the other site and found the lake out by Kamas is the Mirror Lake they were refering to off of Mirror Lake Hwy.. oops Looks like a cool drive and maybe not too far.
Cool how we all learn stuff on this site. I was not familiar with the Mirror Lake east of Beaver. I drove the up the Mirror Lake Highway (near Kamas) last weekend. I did not make it over the top to Mirror Lake, but Lost and Lilly, near Trial Lake were capped - ice did not look safe then. It may be fishable by now.
Well, I was down in Provo/Lehi/Park city for a couple of days on a little mini vacation with the family and tricked the wife into a little “relaxing drive up the mountains” to do a little recon on Mirror lake. We headed up from Kamas and I was disappointed. The road to Mirror lake is closed 15 miles from Kamas (a good 30-35 miles shy of Mirror Lake). Maybe a snowmobile could trek up the snow capped road but that’s a loooong cruise on a machine I would think.
On a side not, Jordanelle, Rockport, & Echo all are wide open soft water still–no surprise. Saw a few shore fishermen and a rowboat out on Echo tho.
A little off tangent, but here’s a story:
Years ago a friend was planning a boys trip to his family cabin. They asked me to buy the fishing supplies and they would all chip in (I was “uncle josh” and taught and took all these guys fishing). I asked where the cabin was, and he said really close to fish lake. So I bought a bunch of tube jigs and adjust a bubbles for the perch, some castmasters and what nots for the splake.
Started following him for the drive “down,” but we went up I-80.
That’s when I learned there is a fish lake in the uintahs.
I learned to always ask follow up questions when planning trips with these fellahs [;)]
Well thats what happened on Sunday. We headed up Mirror Lake Hwy. and saw the closed sign. Kept on going because it looked like some other trucks were aready up there. The snow on the road wasnt bad at first but by the time we got to Trial Lake it was about a foot deep and the turn off at Trial was a bit deeper and un passable in my truck. Sadly we turned around and went home. What a bummer.[:/]
If we were one week earlier I am sure it would have been fine.
What a bummer!! Some ice fishing would be SHAWEET right now!
