This past year I made the plunge into the purchase of the Ulterra. I like the feature of self-deploy/stow which will save my back & knees from pain. The model purchased is 24v 80lb thrust 60" shaft. The only issue I have is when deployed there is still approximate 12" off shaft with power head still above putting motor just below water surface and appears there is no adjustment to get at least 6" of that upper shaft to lower. The belt glides along a slot built into the shaft. After looking into a possible solution, my thought is to replace the shaft & belt that comes with the longer version 72" Ulterra model. The older manual deploy minnkotas have a collar that was a simple adjustment to lower the shaft down. Has anyone ever tried to modify this model Ulterra ? The pic supplied shows more upper shaft but can see a white line of shaft belt that can still be lower. Where the line upper end is about 12" to the head.

Mine has 2 arrows on the remote to lower and raise the unit to the height desired, after setting it it always goes back to that position.
MSM, I have same, just want to go lower below the water surface. Also it depends on height of bow sitting in water, mine is high
Im surprised it dose not go lower than that in the pic, mine will go down until it touches the head or really close to that. I might would reach out to minkota or utube university.
MSM, I would like to see an actual pic of yours where it is deployed down close to the head. Mine comes down more than what’s in the pic. Unfortunately I can’t lower mine while on the trailer. I have done searching in (YTU)YouTube University, it’s mostly how to fix when something breaks.
Yah I cant deploy on the trailer either, Hoping to go out this coming weekend, I will try to get a pic for you.

After my first knee replacement (April) last year, Dave came by to install my Minnkota. Just ran across my operating manual while I was searching a box for something else in our office, it was stuffed in that box. A memory lapse & whacked out on pain drugs helped in the misplacement. Soon after the other knee surgery came with more drugs. As I was looking into the reading content found possible answer to my issue, so just awaiting a chance to hit the lake, the answer I found says I should be able to lower the shaft to within 1½" of control head. I’m looking fwd to a better year, need little warmer weather to get out. In the meantime, some boat & truck projects should keep me going as long as I don’t get down on my knees.
Thanks Alan, for the heads up about Doug Philpott, I’m hoping to troubleshoot mine to the end. Also, I found a Minnkota rep in Ogden searching web, I haven’t contacted them so can’t verify.
