Middle Provo 6-15

Didn’t have work today so I thought I’d take advantage and go fish my favorite place, the middle provo. I also like sleeping so I didn’t get up to the river until about 1.

The action was great. I walked down from where I parked a ways and started fishing. The first run yielded 3 small browns using a silver rooster tail 1/8oz. I moved up the river and kept catching small browns everywhere.

After about 2 hours I had 10 or so small browns, I hadn’t even got a 10inch trout yet but that was about to change. I came up to a real nice fast section with a submerged boulder creating some nice white water that emptied into a narrower pool.

Using my very trusty #3 silver blue fox on my first cast I hooked into my first “trophy” brown. This guy hit hard and fast and took me down river. He got tangled into a boulder in some deep fast water and I thought he was stuck for sure. After some walking back and forth and climbing over some rocks and through trees I was able to get near where he was and got him out. After he got out he was very tired and it wasnt too much trouble to get him in. The guy measured 21" and I was pumped! My biggest one yet. I couldn’t get a picture because I was taken too far away from by backpack with my gear in it unfortunately and there was no way I was getting the fish safely to where my gear was.

I kept fishing until 8pm and ended up with about 30 browns in all. Most of them being pretty small but I did catch a hand few inbetween 10-14 inches. I did get a picture of the 2nd largest fish of the day. Overall it was a good day with lots of fish caught, it’s got me excited for more.

Nice work!
I always enjoy a good day where the fish are biting, a shame you couldn’t get a pic of the big one but I’m glad you had enough sense to take care of the fish, I hate it when people are careless with them and throw them back dead

Sounds like you had a fun day, and did very well! Im glade you finally got the big brown you wanted! Bummer you didnt get a picture, but their will definatly be other days for another fish like that. Nice Report

The middle has fast become my favorite stretch of river… Spring creek in particular. Have pulled out some very nice fish up there. Well done man! Love the report…

Yeah a silver Blue Fox is a good choice on the provo. Size #3? That is big! I have yet to toss one that big in a river so far. Glad to hear you landed the pig and didn’t lose it on the hang up.

Size #3 has been the jackpot for me. It is decent size but it’s far from too big, it’s absolutely perfect. It’s big enough to handle the faster and deeper water sections and pools, it is also built right to bounce off rocks in shallower sections and handles every type of water perfectly. It’s also heavy enough that I can get real nice long effortless casts with my 6’ rod on 4lb fluero coated mono.
I catch the majority of my trout in the Provo on it, from that big guy down to 5" fish. Best lure ever.
