My wife and I just came back form there. There were people along the harbor that were offering fishing trips all day long. Many of the boats that came in had caught several fish. From what we found talking to people the fishing is catch and release. Hope you catch alot and have fun. Good luck.
I have fished Cabo for many years. We try to fish at least 3 days each trip.
There are a couple of ways to go: One is inshore on a panga (small craft w/outboard motors generally 20 to 30 feet) Pangas generally fish closer to land often right up in the surf. Fish caught are: Rooster fish, sierra, cabrilla, dorado (mahi) grouper and various sea bass. Many a striped marlin has been caught on a panga when the billfish are close to shore.
The other option is offshore aboard a sportfisher, 28 to 80 feet with the majority of the huge Caboo fleet being in the 30’ range. These boats are covered, confortable and fast, generally powered by twin diesels and capable of traveling many miles offshore, althought they seldom go more than 20 or 30 miles. If you are looking for marlin (all 3 specie of pacific), sailfish, dorado or wahoo. these are the boats you want to fish out of. Rates run from $450USD a half day to an average of $600.00 for a full day fishing. This is for the boat not per person.
The boat we always book is the FLYHOOKER, She’s a 30 bertram with a fantastic captain and a able mate. We have never been skunked aboard the Fly hooker. As I recall, we’ve never been out on her when we didn’t catch a bill fish.
The owner is George and Mary Landrum. They are Americans with vast fishing experience. George is the only IGFA certified captain and certified observer in Cabo.
Rates are $600 to $650 a day (7:00 to 2:30 PM) the capt, Manuel, knows where the fish are and works hard to catch you one. This price is all inclusive, tackle, lunch, water, beer, pop. It does not include bait, or mexican fishing license. ($20.00 for live bait and $11.00, I think for Mexican license)
