Memorial Weekend

Due to additional obligations, and rainy weather, I only managed to get out twice over the Holiday Weekend to do some fishing. Both trips were quick, but effective.

Friday - Decided to head down to the Jordan River after dinner to try for some kitty’s. I fished my normal spot, and got nothing. Decided to move down to my secondary spot, and managed a quick 12" kitty. Skinny, but nice. Proceeded to then catch 2 small bullheads (mudders). Nothing else, but it was getting dark, so I wrapped up and went home to play Saints Row III.

Saturday - RAIN DELAY

Sunday - RAIN DELAY

Monday - After mowing lawns, I headed up Big Cottonwood with my parents and girlfriend. CROWDED! Found a spot that I will sometimes fish for a quick trip, and only managed a dinky brookie. Normally this stretch produces a few browns, but they too must have also been off on the Holiday Weekend.

The BCR can be good…but crowded in the popular spots. Although it was snowing on Sunday TDT and I counted over 10 cars and way too many fisherman in the “road side” spots. At least the canyon produced some fish…lately they spook way too easily!

Ahh a BCR brookie…who’s complaining?

I am definitely not complaining. I love little brookies. Usually that stretch of BCC produces a few more browns though. I have caught more brookies down closer to Mineral Fork though.

I bet you are not…I am sure the mountain air + scenery beats the hell out of the sound of cars, crazy people and car wash buzzers that your stretch of the Jordan is known for! With all the time I have spent on the BCR all I ever get is Browns and once in a blue moon…a Rainbow Trout. Never got a brookie to stay on the hook…just no size to those guys. Thanks for posting.

I have found a couple of spots along the Jordan that are away from both the carwash buzzers as well as a lot of the foot traffic, and cars. I will continue to go to those areas, until later this year when I know the whities are swarming the area where Little Cottonwood confluences with the Jordan.

As for BCC. There are a multitude of areas I fish. Most of them are between the “S” curve, and Meeting of the Glaciers. Mostly browns, a few brookies in some areas, and I recall catching at least one cutty years ago somewhere near Mill A Gulch. I know there are a ton of brookies in Silver Lake, but I am waiting for it to get a little warmer before I venture up to Silver Lake.
