Ok - so everybody has a blue tent. Or maybe a red, possibly a black.
I’m-a thinnin’ it’s about time to start raising up a flag and strap it to your rig. Throw up a BFT logo, and your ‘call-sign’ - then we know to either stop and say hello,or stay the heck away! [pirate]
Had a great first and second day on the ice Mon-Tue. Nice to meet some BFT-ers first hand, and also chat with various other folks on the ice. I may not have slammed em and filled buckets the way some folks did, but I think I learned, and got a touch going towards the end of each day. Plus I didn’t get skunked.
Just after the friends left, I got working the camera, and seeing the jig bounce, then seeing the jig run sideways, get knocked at, etc. It was ON! Neat thing too - I could tell after I’d had a hit/strike - whether I still had bait on. It’s slick seeing them check out your bait, react to your jigging motion, run away spooked, or just nudge at it. Some aggressive attacks, others taunting nibbles on the tip. Saw a nice bass go by - thought he’d inhaled it, but I think he was between jig and camera.
Pineviewfisher - sorry I didn’t get that action while you were there. We probably shoulda dropped the camera in your tent, or dropped your tent on the camera. Glare is tuff. I think the camera light actually attracted them to check it out before sun-up. Eyes in the dark.
I don’t know what it’s normally like - but there was a grundle of folks out there, but I wouldn’t call it “crowded” - easy to move around and plenty of untracked, or previously tracked zones to set on. South end was mushy Mon, but enuf planks to get on. More at the end of day. Tuesday was solid in the am, and a little mush by early afternoon. But - good enuf planks. Ice was solid - even had snowmobilers out there.
It’s funny how no-one seems to want the trout. Gill chaser, and perch fanciers (bunk of dinks) - but almost annoyed at hooking up a bulky fat trout on ice jigs and light line. A tugs is a tug. [:p]
Must say - some nice experience, friendly folk out there - willing to chat and share tactics. Lots of families - grandpas and grandkids - some more interested in snow-angels and witches brew than fishing - but fun on the ice all the same. Got my son/daughter psyched to come play on the ice. Even saw some folks ice-skating.
Probably ease up on the pressure once more lakes cap, and it’s not Xmas vacation. But even for a small lake - there’s a lot of surface to roam, long as you’re not really seeking solitude. Camera battery died on Mon, then forgot to bring it on the ice Tue. Got a few pix to share.
Now once Newton or the Pig set in - I’ll be ready!
