Little Dell on fire!! 10-22

Little Dell - Arrived at 3pm with my twin, BFT’s Aquaman. Around 5pm UWN member 1morecast joined us. I caught 7 cutts, my twin caught 12 cutts, 1morecast caught 6 cutts, and Aquaman caught 19 cutts! In total that is 44 cutts from Little Dell!

FALL FISHING IS ON AT LITTLE DELL! When 1morecast and I joined my twin we had bites every cast! I lost around 12 fish on the way in too. Seemed like 5:30pm was the magic hour or something because it was non-stop action till dark. My twin lost the biggest fish of the day at 21+ inches right next to shore. Some times the fish would take the lure while it was sinking. At one point Aquaman claimed he got 5 fish in 5 casts! It was well worth the $5! If you have not been to Little Dell before NOW IS THE TIME!!!

My twin, 1morecast, and I were using a Gold Kastmaster. Aquaman was using various rapalas in a different location than the 3 of us. On a side note to 1morecast. The bush monster you heard was 4 deer nearing the beach around 7:30pm but thanks for the heads up.

Here are the pics!
My 1st cutty of the day.

My 2nd cutty of the day.

MY TWIN’S CUTTY’S OF THE DAY!

1morecast and I in the background of yet another cutty of my twin’s!

Wow…those pictures I took came out GREAT! Fall at Little Dell is the BEST time to catch those beautiful cutts. Glad you and 1morecast decided to join me on the other side of the lake…and at the same time I am glad you guys did not join me at the inlet previous to that. Usually the inlet is full of eager fish but not this time. Man is that water level dropping and not just week by week…I swear you could see the water going down an inch or two through out the day. Always interesting to see the area where you were once catching fish. Most of the time I think, “oh, no wonder I was catching fish right there”. Too bad I had to let the cutts go…there were some perfect smoker sized cutts in there…not to mention the 21+ incher that broke off just 3-4 feet from shore[frown][frown]…I have not seen a fish that big on the end of my line since Bear Lake…if only you TyeDye were there to net it then I could blame you for missing that fish and thankfully it did not break my rod this time (inside jokes).

Great fall colors, both on the fish and the trees. Caught that first shot and thought maybe you’d posted the picture upside down (haha - just ribbing - “gelling like a felon”)

Sounds like a better outing than the one before. Right place right time I guess.
I’m not familiar with that spot- if ya don’t mind my asking where’s Little Dell? (I could look it up, but ah… lazy)
Is there a slot there, or some Cutty restrictions?

Fall Trout are fun fun. Hoping to prove that to myself - after weighing options I think I’ve decided to hit up Hyrum - see if I have ANY hope of finding some bass, but expect to certainly get into some slimers. With any luck I can push past the planters, maybe get down to something big-n-brown even! With the water levels so high - tempted to bring the downrigger, but I’ll probably just keep it simple and drag some leadline and maybe jig some spoons deep. Though last fall - the surface activity was on fire!

Rumor has it ya’ll are looking to hit Mantua today? Let us know if the pea soup has cleared out any. Hyrum’s just a bit farther up the road really. Good luck and tight lines!

It is up parley’s canyon. There are restrictions. Artificial fly’s and lures only and all cutty’s must be released. Ugh I hate that but when it is close and you can catch that many, it is worth it. Still most of the reason I go there is that you have a shot at Brookies in the inlet stream. This time I didn’t harass them as the fishing was awesome!

I will let you know how mantua goes later on. Leaving for it soon!

nice report.. good pics ! how far would you say the fish are hitting off the bank? [fishin]

Most of the time they hit as far out as you could cast. Although a few did hit next to the shore which either means the fish were following it in or crusing the shore. Right at near dark in the fading light I casted in 2 feet of water parallel to the shoreline and fought a few fish.

So mid day and evening cast out far, near dark it might be a good idea to cast along the shoreline. Good luck and let me know if you wanna head out there this week.

It closes next Monday doesn’t it, then what?

Thankfully it does not close on Monday…we saw lots of people ice fishing it last year. Wonder how they did with no bait and all? Years ago that regulation did exist but thankfully not anymore. Here are the current regulations.

Little Dell Reservoir

, Salt Lake County

• CLOSED to the possession of cutthroat trout or trout with cutthroat markings.
• All cutthroat trout must be immediately released.
• ARTIFICIAL FLIES AND LURES ONLY.

Guess you are right, but a heck of a walk

The recreation area entrance gate is open 8:00 a.m. to dusk each day from Memorial Day Holiday weekend in May to the end of October.

The gate closes at 8pm…and the guard is known to have to walk down to the water and yell at fisherman to come in so he can close it. The bathrooms are already closed and the lights do not turn on after dark…maybe they should reduce the $5 fee when the services are cut like that? When the gate closes for the season you are right..it is one hell of a walk…especially to get to the other side of the lake! However I am willing to suffer a bit to get fish like that! Still trying to get a damn Brookie!

I hear ya… But to walk that far for 12" to 16"…well, maybe…LOL
