I like braid ,but use more mono , because if you get a knot in braid I can’t get it out . I do love the low stretch and hook setting with braid . Curt G.
I voted other because P-Line is my favorite by far. The strength to diameter ratio is unreal. I’m not talking about mechanical tests, I’m talking hands on in the water tests. I have found nothing like it. No I am not paid to endorse P-Line. I wish…

Just my opinion.

And fly line is also helpfull of any one has input about that also!!
No way on fly line. It is PVC coated. Bad enough on rivers with rocks and other sharp objects, but I think an ice hole would trash a line. For the record, I am P-Line Fluorocarbon or SEAGUAR fluorocarbon.
As far as the spelling, I thought you were doing it on purpose to meke me read your post twice…![]()

Don’t sweat the small stuff, right.
I have been fishing Fire line on all my spinning gear ever since I tried it. I like that its stronger than mono and no stretch but not braided, it’s still slick and smooth. I like some of the coated braids on my heavy baitcaster, and 8-20 fireline on my hi speed baitcasters. I also have spare spools of flourocarbon but I have not figured out which kind I like best yet.

I don’t always use mono but when I do, I prefer Ande.
The champagne color (10 to 15 lbs) is transparent in Lake Mead where the water is super clear.
I’m seeing a trend here, and my vote also goes for P-Line, but I also use Maxima, Trilene, and some others, but P-Line flouroclear is my favorite.
I have rec’d several PM’s asking that people who engage in personal attacks be blocked from the site. I have PM’ed the individuals involved, and hope the situation is solved. Hopefully it will not be necessary to ban anyone from this usually very friendly site. Thanks for your consideration. Mike
Im not really asking for ice fishing but for just in general. I like to fly fishing and would like to know what some good line is ect!! I know fly line gets much higher in price than others but i would like to know what are some good fly line for beginners!
I have always liked origonal Stren for smallmouth because I fish in the rocks a lot and like how abraision resistant it is. Ievery year it seems I try something new and them srtip it off the next day because it frays so bad…
After reading alot of the posts on this, i have came to the conclusion that i should have put a better selection of line for choices! Seems that p-line is a pretty popular line, just a heads up im planning another poll probaly be up today. Thank you every one so much for your particapation!.
I grew up on use stren or go home mentalilty, but after breaking free of the trout fishing world we have here in southeast idaho i made a few changes to my line choices. when braided line first hit the spotlight i fell in love with the spiderwire braid, caught more catfish and bass than i can even remember on that stuff. The one downside to it that i found was if you fish alot it will wear out your gear, line guides on reels and the eyes on your rods. It cut through them on many of my favorite rods and reels. My new favorite is Andes mono. It is some tough line, it also lasts for many seasons of heavy use. I have 4 pound on my ice gear and 60 pound on my sturgeon gear, and every thing in between for whatever fishing i may be doing. Bottom line is Andes is my hands down favorite. Till i change my mind again

Don’t skimp on fly line, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find good deals.
I’m sorry Jeremy, but I can hold my tongue no longer. LEARN TO SPELL AND COMPOSE YOUR POSTS AS IF YOU HAD SOME KIND OF EDUCATION!! You embarass yourself with this third grade junk that bears your name. Tell a moderator, tell a preist,…
What dictionary did you use to spell priest?
Now that’s funny! I notice misspelled words myself, but a freindly fishing forum is not the place to expose someone’s small faults. Jeremy brings alot of info to this site and I’m sure folks understand his points, even with the errors. I’m sure the big fish he catches don’t give a hoot how he spells!
As my first post stated, as far as mono goes for me it’s P-line all the way. But last summer I tried the new Berkley Nanofil. I really like the way it shoots off a spinning reel, and it’s incredibly strong with zero stretch. Expensive though. 20 bones for 150 yards.
uhmmmm…wow. I think winter brings out the pathetic side of people who are only grumpy due to a lack of fishing…just sayin. Although I too find myself internally laughing at the seeming lack of proper english usage, I also know that the only reason I come to this site is to share or gain knowledge on fishing related topics. Jeremy like others may not always spell things correctly, but I enjoy the posts and the questions. I think those of you who are hyper-critical need to get a life. Good Lord…
As far as line goes…I have used many types and colors over the years and to be perfectly honest, I am in love with Power Pro braid. I use it almost exclusively on all my reels, usually in the 30 lb test range. I love the way it casts so far, is super sensitive, and lasts a heck of a long time. I used to use Fireline but it frays alot and is more like dental floss than anything else…it doesnt have a round diameter like PP…and I think at 30lb the PP is a 8lb mono equivelant diameter so you can get alot on the spool. The hardest part of using braid is knowing how much mono backer to put on the spool first. If you put braid on the spool directly the whole damn thing slips and spins on the spool…so mono goes on first to keep it snug.
I have had alot of guys tell me I shouldnt use braid on certain types of fish because it has no stretch and i will lose more fish. The only fish I have had a hard time catching on braid are Steelhead…they flip and twist and flop so much its really hard to keep tension on the line…but otherwise I use it for everything else.
When catching Kokes ive found as long as I use a snubber I have no issues…just have to loosen the drag a bit and let em run…but all in all its the most sensitive line as well…all a fish has to do is breathe on the line and you see/feel it…and no need for hard core hooksets as the fish pretty much hook themselves… anyway…my two cents…

I found Spiderwire to be just that! It was like wire and it cuts thru guides something aweful..,However PP doesnt seem to do that.
Also Ive been trying out the Cajun Braid product and so far its good enough to do the job but it doesnt last as long as PP…and it has a good deal of wax on it that comes off on the guides…but for 5 bucks for 150 yrds…its hard to beat.
Also i pretty much use red line exclusively…supposedly the red is supposed to be invisible in water at a shallower depth than other colors…I really dont know about that but it works great and I havent noticed any issues…if needs be I will use a mono or flouro leader but honestly dont need to very often.
One last note on braid vs mono…I have also realized that I can use my braid til it fades and starts to fray a little…but its only the first 5o yards or so…so I spin it off the reel onto a spare line spool with a drill and then onto yet another spool and then back on the rod spool…or better yet if your reel has a spare spool you can take it off one and onto the spare directly…in essence flipping the line and putting the discolored frayed line on the inside and getting another 6 months out of it…hahaha…just a way to get more bang for your buck…
I like Power Pro in various sizes for fishing plastics, Yo Zuri Hybrid for leaders, cranks, jerkbaits, etc. Mono I pretty much reserve for topwater and Trilene XL and Sufix have been my favorites. Fly line I still haven’t decided on what I like, but I like Rio tippets and leaders the best.

I found a lure that the fish just slaughter on topwater and it only fishes right on Braid so thats kinda what started my love affair with it. I had a 200 plus Smallie day on Brownlee on em…the guy i was with got about 30 using spooks and poppers and such. The lures are incredible but hard on the wallet…they average 25 bucks a pop…so yet another reason I use Braid…I sure as heck dont wanna lose one of those babies…they are like gold to me.
