Lees Ferry

Does anyone have any imfo on Lees Ferry, below Lake Powell ? Any fishing suggestions ?

The scenery is nice but the fishing isn’t worth it. Green river is much better. Midges and scuds below stimulators and unbelievables are the norm. Swinging buggers threw riffles and deep holes work good. You’ll need a boat to get to the better spots up river. The walk-in section is tough during the summer and best during the winter.

Every spring the area is flooded to create backwater spawning areas for endangered chubs. It basically has killed the trout fishing but the river once produced 10lb bows.

What lures for spin fishing ? Have boat, and we will be going upriver.

1/16 oz black marabou jigs, small tube jigs, #7 countdown rapalas.

Thanks Jim. We will be up your way in June after Lee’s Ferry.

Can it be good fishing ? Are there only Rainbows ?
Can you troll ?

All I’ve ever caught is rainbows. In the stretch from Lee’s to the dam, its best fished with flies, but it does contain enough trout to catch some on spinning gear. I haven’t fished it in a few years, but as was mentioned, much depends on the flows from the dam. I always went there during the winter. Your best source of information would be Lees Ferry Anglers. Can probably google it.

The best fishing (Damn good!) is below Lee’s, but that requires a trip down the Grand Canyon and a couple of pretty big riffles![sly]
