Learn something new every time I fish - 3/32 oz jig?

Since finesse is my middle name (not really it’s Charles), I figured why not use a** 3/32 oz jighead vs the 1/16 oz. and rig larger lures with it. Deepwater fishing is usually not my thing, but yesterday I found out a pattern involving islands of pads and the 8’ of water** around them. Fish were in open water near and in between the islands. Casting distance was much greater and more accurate given the 10 mph wind and the medium action rod. I started out using my usual 1/16 and 1/24 oz jigs, but once I found fish deep I figured why not go heavier?
1/16oz left,                                                3/32oz middle and right - both weights with #4 hooks:

Man did I catch fish from 1:30 pm - 4:45 pm! The larger jig didn’t affect the bite one bit and even small sunfish were caught! This 11" crappie didn’t seem to notice:

Key in using heavier jigs is that they don’t affect the rate of retrieve or lure action. With shorter casts and shallow water, less line out means less line buoyancy causing me to use a faster retrieve especially in water 5’ or less. Next I’ll try using a 1/8 oz. like I used to use for smallmouth with a Mr. Twister curl tail grub. Bigger lures catch bigger fish in this lake.
