Fished Bird Island for cats today with a boat load of gkids. Had a blast. Caught about a dozen with the largest ones around 8-10 pounds. Two big males at 28 and 30 inches. The 30 incher weighed 13 lbs. as weighed on my top-of-line $4.00 Walmart scales. We were using a big slab of carp meat on a 4/0 hook fished on the bottom in 3 to 4 feet of water.
You caught some mighty fine cats there. I bet the gkids had a blast.![]()
Thanks for the report bet it was a great time.
There was a thread last week about where all the big kitties are. Bird Island is the answer. Joking - they are everywhere - but it got me thinking. Maybe the larger fish are still wrapping up the spawn? The knolls as been producing a lot of smaller fish - perhaps the big mature cats are keyed in more on spawning habitat (rocks and crannies - as opposed to reeds and flats)
you just can’t beat a trip like that. the gkids is what it is all about. thanks for sharing. ![]()
