We hit Yuba bright and early yesterday. We caught what seemed like a bucket load of perch both on worm harnesses and walleye divers. We caught one pike on a worm harness and lost it at the side of the boat, the other pike we caught ( we think it was a pike) we lost when it came out of the water and stole our walleye diver some 50 yards behind the boat. We also caught one carp on a walleye diver. We had to start using artificial worms on our bottom bouncers as we went through our 2 dozen worms in no time. We didn’t catch any walleyes or trout. We launched from the main boat ramp and trolled that oppisite shoreline from the dam to the other end and back. Wind was calm at times and not so calm at other times. We left when the rain started around 3 pm.
Nice report, sorry you didn’t catch the toothy ones. How big were the pike ?
Sorry to hear you got no eyes. I tried using worms bottom bouncing big mistake!! I would stick to artificials tipped with a small piece of worm you will have better chance of getting a walleye or pike. It will save you a lot of time replacing worms and keeping perch off your hooks.
Sure will be nice next year when they let us keep 10 perch. We will have the lake cleaned out in no time. HA HA
That is if it doesn’t crash first. The perch are skinnier now than any time since they refilled Yuba. And, the ones we caught the other day did not seem to be eating well. The perch from Starvation and Jordanelle are all fat and puking up baby perch.
Only the biggest and fattest perch seem to be able to find enough to eat…with the two year old perch…the 4-5 inchers. Couldn’t see evidence of any young of the year perch last Monday…and of course the fathead minnows are history.
The one pike we got to the boat I would guesstamate to be in the 30 inch range. We didn’t see any diffrence with the perch after switching over to the plastics other than not having to replace the worm. The biggest perch we caught measured a little over 10 inches.
Where are all those walleye certain individuals claim are in Yuba, and must be harvested?
Those eyes are there just got to find the right spot at the right time with the right lure. [;)] Try the rockpile next time you go it has been a good spot.
Where is this rockpile?
The rockpile is across the state park boat ramp. I cant find a pic i have of it but you need a fishfinder to find it. Beleive me you cant miss it once you go over it . That spot holds a lot of perch and it is an express lane for eyes and pike.Most of the res has a sandy bottom. Hope this helps.

The rockpile is SE of the main launch ramp. You can see Walleye Point directly on the other side of it.
