Okay I’m going to post some pics that I’m sure will offend someone or more. I always catch and release fish of all kinds especially trophies. I kept a total of 8 fish last year. 4 trout out of the berry and four pike for a bbcue fish fry. The trout were caught on large swim baits. The pike Ive done well on, four times to yuba for 15 pike. The musky I have lost all the huge ones Ive hooked up with, I really think they are line shy and I have been bit off because of using heavy fluorocarbon and not steel. I have averaged 6 to 8 of them a day this last fall. I would like some to show me how to get the giants of pine view and I will help you on bass. Ive done very well at pine view for bass with a couple five pounders and lost a smallie that was easy six pounds.
Great pics! I have never caught a muskie, but I have been trying for pike out of yuba for the past two summers and have only caught carp. I’ve done really well for pike out at Redmond, but those pike are a lot smaller. I would love to land a big pike out at Yuba. If you don’t mind telling me, what time of year were you fishing and what were you catching them on? The pike I caught at Redmond were caught on a red and white daredevil and I also caught some with a jointed rapala.
Caught them in september and they were caught on 10 inch swim baits and 8 inch jointed baits. Hope that helps.
I’ll bet your in-box is full of PM’s lol…
Very impressive fish…
Unbelievable! Great job. “Now you are the masta…”
Interesting as we fish PV and do very well for the beasts using 65# Power Pro and 80# test fluorocarbon leaders and have yet to loose any fish. 95% of the time if not more the fish if only lipped hooked…at least for us the Tiger hasn’t engulfed the lure …including up until just last year we didn’t use leaders at all and never lost a fish from a bite off…lucky I guess. But we do make our own fluorocarbon leaders…primarily we decided to use these leaders because they are invisible in the water…Largest fish boated was 51" a couple years ago no leader and numerous 40" and up…
Tigers aren’t line shy either…if they want it they’ll eat it…they’ll follow a figure 8 right at boat side with the rod-tip in the water…they’ll smash a prop wash troll not more than 10’ behind the boat…so again if they want it they’ll eat it..called time on the water is all I can really say about PV and having nerves of ‘steel in the summer’ with the rec boaters…
Thanks for telling me that, I haven’t caught a lot of them and I get more interested the more I learn so I appreciate knowing that. I was using forty pound floro and at pv I was using swimming jigs for the musky and when they eat it its in the back of the mouth. I need to learn from guys like You so if You don’t mind I will P.m. You for info on how to catch them, Thanks
Well the best advise I can give anyone WRT PV and TM fishing is time on the water and practicing the 3Ps (passion, persistence, patience) and becoming a ‘real’ student of the species.
I’ll be honest and upfront…I care nothing about catching Bass nor do I care to help folks just interested marking a fish off their bucket list. Thats me plain and simple. We’ve put way to much time on PV teaching ourselves and numerous hours of reading and becoming students of this fish…so needless to say we have a great respect for this species and the very few dedicated TM anglers we know.
I’m more than willing to help folks who are sincerely interested with techniques and going from there…first and the foremost technique is ‘proper’ handling of a fish…for example never hold the fish in the vertical position for a long period as this can damage internal organs or a fish.
Hey !! if you are not careful, those kids are going to push you out of the boat and take off on their own !! They look like they are having to much fun !! By the way, what are you running, a Triton ??? great fish, greater kids !!!
I’m going to jump out of line. I believe it’s a Viper Cobra with a new wrap on it [;)]. A very nice boat
Yea it is the cobra, I was getting rid of it when I got that pro xs on a sponsorship so I had the entire boat re done and its been nice but its time for a new one. Thanks about My boys they are My life and they sure can fish. Ive had them out at such a young age their momma would freak and they was even a little scared but it has paid off. Dax the oldest is now eleven and its his first year of competing in the flw. Im really excited to see how he does. Dax has a 8.02 under his belt and dillon the youngest got a 6.5 last spring.
awesome report, great fish and smiles. I fish PV quit a bit. caught my share of muskies, that is some heavy duty line you guys are using. but again you guys don’t lose much. Or i am just crazy. I use 6 to 8 lb line hardly ever use steel leader. most of the time i get my muskies in. but it is the russ i get when i know i have a monster one on. but i have been thinking of using 15 lbs spiderwire. this year. because last year i have lost a few 50 plus inch muskies. good luck. you never know when the big one will hit. P.S never really fished pineview from a boat, is it awesome. it looks like it would be.. tight lines Pineviewfisher…
I fish for tigers about 2-3 days a week And I used to believe they are line shy as well so I would mess around with fluorocarbons or going leaderless but I now know that when a big musky wants to eat. . HE WILL! I now use 20lb Cortland toothy critter tie-able wire leader, works amazing and is very thin and limp. Its almost the same diameter as the mono or flouro I use.. I am sold and will never go back!
I also use this for my leaders. Haven’t found anything better. The only problem is you have to tie you knots very carefully or you’ll get kinks and bends in the wire right next to your knot. It could affect the way your baits swims but that could be a good thing with TM’S [;)]
