Labman, Chick, Bass, 06/9/2011, Solo- Wore out my thumb

Got out a little earlier this evening and almost immediately ran into a thunderstorm with lightning. Not good. Ran to a dock and waited it out. Didn't last too long, and I headed out for a ledge with a flat of 12-14' adjacent to the ledge. The area was full of bait, and the bass were there with them. Started with a gulp minnow on a dropshot and had a good keeper on before it hit bottom. After catching several good fish I decided to try some other stuff to see what they would hit. Threw 3/4 oz. spoon and jerked it back along the bottom. The LM Bass ate it up, and the yellows liked it to. I did manage to lose 2 very good fish when they jumped near the boat and threw the spoon, I knew they would do this, but couldn't keep them down. Caught one on a shaky head and one on Texas rigged 5" cutail worm.

The area of the flat I was fishing was covered up with baitfish and I marked lot of bass. I hooked 19 keeper LM Bass, no dinks, and got 16 of them in the boat. Saw all three that I lost and one was the largest of the day. Didn't get pics of 2 largest fish landed as my camera ran out of juice. Both a little over 4#. Also had 2 drum, 1 crappie and half a dozen yellows. All the bass were caught in about a 1 1/2 hour period. I stayed right in that general area and never got to do any looking for more fish. Had to leave early as another storm with lightning rolled in about 7:15, so I headed for the ramp.

Tried to get my neighbor to tag along, but he wasn't at home or didn't hear me knock. Hope he reads the report, lol. A fun time and man is my thumb sore. emoLaugh Oh and it was a trip watching the tourney guys blasting by on their way upriver to all the hot spots.

Regards, Labman emoPoke
