kokes on the fly

Planning on heading up to strawberry this weekend to do some camping , hoping to get a good amount of fising in. Anybody know what kind of flies would be good to catch some kokes, I heard they are around 25 ft deep and like red, pink. Any help would be great, will be fishing from a boat.

Here’s a link to an older thread on the same topic.

I’ll probably head up sometime this year and see if I can’t get one myself. Good luck!

Awesome thanks for the help, lots of great info there.

Might be a bit tuffer with them changing. I would think they are not going to be hungry.
End of life thing.:sunglasses:

I was at sportsmans and it said the koke fishing was hot, oh well guess Ill just fish for trout and hope to luck into a koke then [:(]

Could ( or should I say kood[:)]) be, but I would imagine they are NOT hitting for food. They would be schooling up though, or in my imagination they are
Try Black Buggers. Wish I could try with you, but we are heading up on the 6th.
They will hit out of anger

if you can find one of the few streams you can fish for them when they turn they will hit a streamer out of aggression

Any idea of what streams they might be?

I don’t know any streams but soldie creek marina right by the docks is a good place to catch spawning kokes. But usually not till september

Really? I fish Soldier Creek a lot and I have never seen them. I will have to keep an eye out.
Now Renegade bay, I have seen them in the past. Didn’t look this last trip.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll have to give it a try. What time in September?

Strawberry tribs but they close to fishing for the spawn 9/1.
You can find Kokes in the Green River in Wyoming open to fish during the spawn. Not sure why you’d target them over trout other to say you caught one.

That’s basiaclly what it comes down to. Just another off the list.

End of September first of October

Sweet! Thanks man!

Any idea of what streams they might be?

you can do the wyoming thing, if you look hard enough you can find streams here in UT that do not close to the kok spawn that you can swing a streamer at while they are running

Idaho too.

Yeah Idaho has a really sweet run of kokes that’s open to fishing. Forgot about that. I just don’t like to catch salmon when they start to get nasty so usually target the trout with lake runs.

True, but nice to have a red Koke under your belt just once[:)] Adds to the learning too.

dont forget about swinging flesh flies behinde spawning koks for some nice trout action as well
