Lake Katherine - Met up with BFT’s FlyFishingLover at 3:30pm. We decided to hit Lake Kathrine for some brookie action. On the way up I saw the same guy I did last sunday and he got the skunk…again. So we got up there by 6pm and started casting. I threw a gold blue fox and had a bite within 3 casts. Well that was it for the next 45 mins.
So we switched to flies and I got a brookie on the dry within minutes. I managed 8 brook trout and FFL got 5. I managed one brookie on a zebra midge in olive color. I tried a olive mini bunny with no love. Guess they are not like the cutty’s of white pine. We left at 9:30pm and had a great time hiking down in the dark.
Katherine with a K?
The 1st brookie of mine
The summit of Sunset Peak and a brookie of mine
FFL tickles fish…I could swear I heard the fish laughing!
Ya that fish didnt like me at all after how many tries to take a pic but it was one skinny flopper. Gota hate the 5x with all of those 5 fishes + got a free fly with them >_<. I wonder if the fish with my fly will keep thinking hes gona get the fly ha ha ha. Just another day that i gota go back shopping for flies again[sly].
Here is a thought for you two. FFL you like your Elk Hair and Twin, you like your Olive Zebra Midge/Chironomid (by the way, maybe olive is working so well right now because of the Damsels, I don’t know though)
A Dry/Dropper.
There are many ways to tie these. Most popular is off the bend of the Elk Hair. But you can also tie the Elk Hair on a tag and the Mid on the end of the tippet.
You could start with maybe three feet them shorten if needed.

If so you were talking to Mickey when I told him and Byron to come out to my truck and look at some big Uinta brook trout. Good job at Catherine.

You guys could even double up. Just a suggestion.
I did use a dropper rig. The dry was a mosquito and the dropper was the olive zebra midge. Eventually I just wanted the dry on there as the wind kind of makes for a tangle.
Not knocking tactics at all, you’re doing great. But when it comes to lakes with mainly brook trout, stay deep. Those splish-splashes you see are almost always the lake’s smaller residents. That’s why maribou jigs work so well for brook trout. They work the bottom where the bigger fish dwell.
I was going to take out my new tube and go deep with my new sinking line on my new reel at Cathrine. Just got all those things in the past week. I mainly got it just for the brookies and smallies.
And I thought you said it was K-atherine with a K!
And ya done pointed the way there! Now everyone will find it! Teehee.
Looks like a fun hike/destination.
That’s workable. Just use about a 3’ straight fluoro leader with a size 8 woolybugger drug slow across the bottom. Painfully slow, with a small twitch every now and then.

So did you try some shore-side fish-prep?
The “k shot” was a joke attached to another forum. It sure is a great place to get a “quicky” in. Exercise and fishin…does it get any better? Yeah, snow for the ski down baby!
No shore side prep. We arrived late and stayed late. Although I regreted not taking the stove with me this morning for the uinta trip. Kind of wanted to see more ideas from that thread and besides there was not much time to go to the store. Got down late and got up early to slay the fish again. So the life is of the busy fisherman! No complaints!!!
