July 1st to 4th

Hello to Utah anglers from Japan.
I would have business trip to the Saltlake city from July 1st to 4th
and I hope to have one day fishing trip from the Saltlake city.
So I’m wondering what species could be fished and where shoud I go.
I hope to hook fishes I haven’t caught in Japan.
So that I prefer cutthroat, tiger, brook, grayling, crappie, perch, pike,
walleye, wipers, small mouth and so on
to brown, rainbow, large mouth, blue gill and catfish.
Could you please give any recommendation?

I already posted to introduction board and
some members gave some advises (Thanks fellows)
and lead me to post again to this Utah board.
Especially, Albinotrout gave me lake and river information
near the Saltlake city in detail.
So I’m making plans now.
For cutthroat, Strawberry reservoir would be the best place.
But it might be difficult to fish from shore if fishes went deep in July.
I would try to fish for trouts by fly or spin fishing. Not trolling.
If so, I might rather go small streams in the east of the Saltlake city.
Another plan is warm water fishing at Pineview reservoir.
I’m interested in crappie, perch and pike those are not familiar to Japanese.
They would be lived in shallow area though access to the shoreline of
the lake is the remained problem.
What type of bank are there…cliff? marsh? dock?
And how about creatures. Snakes, scorpions, bears, wild dogs…
It’s the starting point of planning now.
So I should check archives for more information till I leave Japan.
And I really appreciate your advise.
Thanks.

(Part of this was originally posted in Japanese, but it didn’t post right.) Hajimemashite. Konnichiwa. Watashi no namae wa Jeff desu. I just moved from Salt Lake City to Maizuru, Japan about 6 months ago. There are many places for you to go fishing in the Salt Lake City Area. Here is a link that has some good information and a map http://www.utahfishinginfo.com/ . If you have access to a car, you could also go to Willard Bay. It is north of Salt Lake City. This body of water has wiper, channel catfish, crappie, etc.

There are many people here on this forum that know a lot about fishing. Tubedude for example, is pretty much a living fishing encyclopedia. Luckily, I had a chance to meet him before I moved to Japan. Hopefully he will have some time to chime in and give you some advice.

Let me know when you will be able to go fishing. I may be able to set you up with one of my friends. Good luck on your quest and feel free to ask me any other questions.

He is a guide and knows his stuff!

You probably picked one of the highest use weekends to fish, this being a major holiday for us. You will have to contend with the jet skiers and the power boat squadron on the lakes especially on the lower lakes like Pineview and Willard Bay. As far as being bothered by the wild critters while fishing, not much to worry about except maybe a rattlesnake depending upon the areas you fish. I hope you enjoy your trip to the USA, I have not spent much time in Japan with just a short Lay over at Yakota on my way to and from Viet Nam in the 60’s.

Tsuyoshi-san, Hajimemashite. I lived in Japan for over 4 years and my wife is from Kanagawa. I sent you a PM.[fishin]

Watashi no namae wa zak desu. i live in japan for well over 4 years, Aomori Prefecture, Misawa Kichi! keep us posted when you get closer, i might swing a day off to drag the boat out!

I’m thankful to Utah board members for
giving many advises and many offers to
take me out to their fishing places.

I’m afraid that I might decline some offers.
Because I received many offers by PMs.
I’d like to ask to those kind members again
after my schedule was fixed.
It would be April.
How many kind people are here!
Many thanks.

Hello Jeff!
You are good at Japanese!

Thank you for your kind reply.
Have you tried Biwa lake?
You are lucky if you are bass fisher.
As you know, the World record of
large mouth bass was
caught at Biwa last year!
It also has some indigenous species
of biwa-trout and biwa-catfish.
Biwa-catfish grows more than 4’ and 40 lbs.
Good fishing!

Thank you UTBASS!
I checked your home page.
Professional Bass fisher! Great!

Thank you PACKFAN
for very important informantion!
You are also a good hunter.
How huge the animal is!

Hi, Zak!
Did you enjoyed fishing in Misawa?

i did. behinde the north area of base had some bass ponds there, along with Yagan up near Mutsu for Masu trout, and Towada river always had fish in it

let me know when you can visit and I will take a couple days off work and take you out for some Tigermusky, Wiper & smallmouth fishing. Better to fish during the week, alot less people on the water…

Told ya come to the Utah board and watch what happens.:sunglasses: Let us know when the time gets closer. Hope your trip goes well!:sunglasses:

Thank you for your kind res.

But I already have received many offers from other board members. So I have to decline to fish with you BigBassholic. I’m sorry. I’m so interested in Tigermusky but… If I had more days…

My wife did the same… Please treat your wife!

If you’re looking for good shore fishing for trout. Try the lakes in the High Uinta Mountains. They’re located in the Northeast corner of Utah, about an hour from Salt Lake by car. There are lakes right off the highway, and hundreds more if you hike in. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks a lot.
You mean R150 and small lakes?
That’s so interesting.

Yes R150. Lots of small lakes with grayling, tiger trout, rainbow trout, brook trout, and cutthroat trout.
