Great fighting upper class Bows speed trolling Rapalas while looking for Wipers (fail).
Could not find Smallies to save my life.
Absolutely beautiful day on the water.

Bonus:
Harvested a dodger/squid combo, large Musky lure, and a Rattletrap out of exposed trees!

Nice screen shot. Were you guys able to stay on top of 'em with the spot-lock, or did they move and you had to chase 'em a little?

Nice screen shot. Were you guys able to stay on top of 'em with the spot-lock, or did they move and you had to chase 'em a little?

I used my special Perch decoy fish method.
Could stay on them and school would get bigger.

I have three boys that want to go and will catch every fish they can.  We love perch but we usually only catch them through the ice.  I see you are using a ned rig, but what do you use specifically for perch?  And, what bait are they eating?

Are you mostly fishing the coves of the Rock Cliff arm?  I’m not trying to get your secret spot, just an idea of where to start.

No secrets here, yes, coves of the Rockcliff arm but really they are almost everywhere.
I want everyone to kill limits so they don’t stunt.
I was using the Ned rig hoping for some smallies or a Brown on a 2nd pole.
I use homemade short shanked 1/8oz lead heads in calm water, and 1/4oz lead heads in wind to stay vertical.
I use 1/2” of crawler to start but first Perch becomes a donor fish for belly strips (they last wayyyy longer than worm) from those striped devil bait stealers.

Awesome, we’ll give it a shot and I’ll report back.  The perch bellies are a great idea!

We were up yesterday as well.  Mostly smaller perch, though.  I don’t have a bow mount so have to anchor.  We swung around a bit.  We had large schools of perch come through every few minutes at 7’.  Weird.

With no crawdad population in Jordy, big perch eat mostly little perch.  And the more big perch there are…and the better the spawning conditions…the more little perch for the big perch.  No worries about stunting.

If you are harkening back to Yuba…the problem there was no spawning cover and low water during spawns.  So the few baby perch that did get spawned got munched and the bigguns had no groceries.  But it all the ponds with good spawning conditions, the more the merrier.

It’s the cookies, go in and delete them on your laptop and you should be good. The same thing happened on my PC and after I deleted the cookies, it worked fine.

I love finder screens that are lit up like that. Sounds like a great day, and I’ll agree, the weather was awesome yesterday. Were you using standard koke gear for the bows? That fish looks nice and healthy.

This is what I was talking about above. We had schools of perch come through as shallow as 6’, every few minutes. Poor photo, but the sonar I logged didn’t record them. Missed them. Lots of perch, unfortunately smaller than you’d like.

For the upper class bows I speed trolled Rapalas at 3.2mph, I was not targeting Bows though, I was looking for them dang Wipers.

Agreed…mostly.  The one big thing we Utah tanglers always gotta deal with is Mama Nature.  How she plays her hand can make a big difference in what is left in the water for us to play with.  And if it ain’t too much of one thing it’s too much of another.

Makes ya a bit more sympathetic for the DWR folks.  They gotta second guess all the potential variables a couple of years in advance in order to make plans and get budgeting.  And flipping coins don’t usually work.  Hard to manage the unmanageable.

I will tell you that one of your fligs 1’ above one of my 1/4 oz short shanked lead heads gave a LOT of those Jordy Perch an “Out of This Water” experience last week!!

I went up on Saturday with the boys. I looked in several coves but we were drifting too fast or swinging too much on the anchor to catch any perch. I don’t have a bow mount and I was just getting our butts kicked.

We ended up fishing from shore and took home about 60 for dinner. The boys had a lot of fun once we found a spot to catch them. Thanks for the tips!
