edit I took a 30 minute break between writing this post and actually posting it – TD pretty much summed it up a whole crap load better than me.
Shane, I’m with you… Kinda. I don’t think there is a snowballs chance that they will tell boaters, who I imagine make up the majority of their summer $$$, that they can’t come play on a Saturday. I can almost smell the outrage from here. I do support a noise pollution ticket though, and frankly, I can’t believe it hasn’t been done yet.
I had my wife and two little girls up at Strawberry last week and we were fortunate enough to get to watch/listen to a wakeboard boat blast some of the most horrid gangsta’ rap imaginable. It was so loud it was as if it was coming from a boom box right next to us on the shore. F-word every five seconds, talkin’ about gettin’ bishes, smoking weed, etc. (so, essentially exactly what my friends and I talk about when we go fishing
) Not really what I want my five year old to be listening to, not to mention my Molly Mo wife who wanted to swim out to their boat and break their balls. To top it off, when the music was off or turned down, we got to hear them yelling and swearing at each other with just as much gusto as the rappers.
You can’t act like that in a public park or a mall or anywhere, really, so why is it OK on the lake? Like I said, I can’t believe that there isn’t something on the books already. That makes me think that maybe there are real reasons as to why it’s not on the books. I can’t think of anything, to be honest, but I dunno. Can anyone here give me a real reason why a law couldn’t be passed to keep the loud and/or offensive music/behavior off the lakes? Or have I just become my old man, who stands out in his front yard and yells at the neighborhood kids to GET OFF HIS LAWN!?
**You make another good point…the plight of shore anglers…many of whom have spouses and/or small children with them. They should not have to endure what the power squadron dishes out…just to show off their rides or demonstrate their tastes in music…or to let people know how profane and stupid they can be.
Ya know, I have never heard Bach, Beethoven or Mozart blasting from any of those noise polluters. Wonder why? Sometimes hear some good modern pop or country music but when it assaults your eardrums at 200 decibels it don’t sound quite so good. I suspect that both the language and the antisocial music are intended to gross out everybody else. It works.
Most state parks and other campgrounds have noise ordinances for after hours ruckus…but only in the camping areas. Nothing about on the lake. I suspect that the problem is enforcement. Pretty much like municipal noise laws. The officers can issue a citation only if they personally witness the violation. On the water you can see a ranger boat approaching from a distance…time enough to hide the beer cans and turn the music down. Even complaints by multiple folks who were victims of the offenders cannot get them cited. Officers have to witness it or the judge will pitch the ticket.
Once again, the laws seem to be slanted toward those who care not about others rather than for those who are offended.

Nice to see that there are some fish still willing to be caught there. Glad to hear you like your new FF.
**Gave the 561 another good workout at Starvy on Friday. TubeBabe’s first time with it. We both agree. We like it fine for a tubing sonar. All the info we need with easy use, good clarity and accuracy. Had several times that I saw fish below and dropped down to them…and caught them. Love it when that happens.

It’s always a good thing when the electronics work and even better when the results show up.
my 565 is still working great and when I get my new 570 rigged up on the boat it will be neat to see how that works out too.
