I’ve been giving my undivided attention to a new pup so Monday was the first day this year I got out on the lake. Fished Jordanelle from 7-9 and caught a limit of 14-15” Kokanee. Lost three. First fish was a 16” splake that was like winching in a wet rag. I thought maybe I had snagged a stick. Surface temp was only 61 so I was surprised to get all my fish at 35ft. Half on green spinner hoochie and half on chartreuse/orange behind a big brass dodger. Don’t plan on launching boats at rock cliff this year. I expect by late summer the water will be out in the mud flat so even kayaks won’t be able to get to the water.
Thanks for the report, good to see you found your way back on the site. You did good, catching your limit in two hours. Was the lake crowded? What kind of pup did you get?
Only saw one other fishing boat and one skier made a pass right before I left.
I got a yellow lab pup. Lost my last one to cancer last fall.
Sounds like a good day. I was there yesterday and did well from the surface down to 45 feet on pink and orange hoochies. We also caught a splake with a lot of released rainbows. Also caught a bunch of kokanee. It’s a nice time to be up there.
What a cute pup, how’s the training going? He looks a little young to be doing any field training, if he is a hunting dog.
Right now it’s just the basics. He’s only 3mos but is learning the house rules. He’s actually been an easy one. And he has some pretty big shoes to fill. Oscar only made it to 9 but in his short time he booked 115 upland retrieves (grouse and pheasants, which of course means hundreds of finds) and about 250 ducks plus a handful of quail and geese.
Yeah the first 3-4 hours of weekday mornings are usually really nice. No wind and no wake boats. I think I’ll hit deer creek Friday. When I drove down to the island the other day to get my annual pass it looked really low compared to a couple months ago when it was clear up in the brush. Launching at the Charleston beach will probably be a no go. And of course no jigging in the weeds for walleye this year since I think the weeds are probably high and dry. I’ll drag some BBs around in the flats.
Water temps at Jordanelle were 54 degrees at 40 ft and 51 degrees at 45 ft per the Fish Hawk. Kokes may come up higher to feed in the early morning but plan on going deeper as sun comes up. Got mine at 35 and 40 today. Little better size.
