Hey guys I’ll be heading out to Jordanelle with my dad in the summer … around the third week in June I was just wondering what I should expect I’ll be flying out and if I can avoid the overweight baggage fees by not having to bring my entire tackle bag that would be great. I’m not looking for anyone’s secret spot I was just wondering what techniques I should expect to be fishing and what kind of depth the fish (bass mostly) will be holding at. Thanks in advance.
Soft plastics and cranks worked out from shore works good for me. depends on how much run off it gets for the depth exactly

another quick question guys are Alabama rigs legal in Utah??
as far as i know. i havent heard anything saying no. i havent tried it yet, but i will this year. let us know how you do if you try it here.
Alabama rigs have a BIG NO on them when I called the state as they said they consider each arm an artificial lure even if it does not have a hook they said…I think that is stretching it.
I plan to talk to the head guy and see what he says as I know how some people have modified them in certain states with similar laws to get them to be acceptable.
That is like saying a double bladed spinnerbait is “3 artifical lures” based on what they were “dead set” the regulation said.

Here’s their definition of an artificial lure.
Artificial lure means a device made of rubber, wood, metal, glass, fiber, feathers, hair or plastic with a hook or hooks attached. Artificial lures (including artificial flies) do not include fish eggs or other chemically treated or processed natural baits or any natural or human-made food, or any lures that have been treated with a natural or artificial fish attractant or feeding stimulant.
If it doesn’t have a hook, it ain’t a lure. If it has no more than 3 hooks it is legal to use in Utah.
There are a few additional angling rules to keep in mind:
• No artificial lure may have more than three hooks.
• No line may have attached to it more than two baited hooks, two artificial flies or two artificial lures. The only exceptions to this rule are if you’re using a setline or you’re fishing at Flaming Gorge Reservoir or Lake Powell. Please see page 11 of this guide for more information about fishing with a setline. Information about fishing at Flam- ing Gorge is available on page 24, and information about fishing at Lake Powell is available on page 26.
I like the breakdown on this as the key is artificial lure - the state guy I talked to initially did not want to clarify it had to have a hook.
So based on all this info/THE REGULATIONS it appears as long as 3 or less hooks you should be good.
I’d go so far as to say that according to the Utah 2012 Fishing Guidebook you could have 3 Alabama Rigs on your line at Lake Powell. Provided each one had no more than three hooks on it. If each Alabama Rig is a lure, you can have 3 lures.
Under the regulations for Lake Powell on page 27:
• No line may have more than 3 baited hooks or more than 3 lures.
Might be a pain in the neck to cast, but you could certainly troll with it.
thanks guys … I have a few of them with 3 arms and a few with 5 arms so I guess I’ll just have to leave the 5 armed ones at home here in new york. I’m glad I asked I just kind of figured that the laws would be similar to what we have here … we’re allowed up to 15 hook points (up to 5 treble hooks) on 1 line
You could check all the regs if ya want.
The Alabama rig does not come with hooks or lures on it..
You put on what lures you want ; or hooks with lures..
All but two waters in Utah only allows two hooks/lures..
But you can have as many teasers as you want..
A lure can have 3 hooks. Most waters allow 2 lures. At Lake Powell and Flaming Gorge you’re allowed 3 lures.
