He said he was headed to Echo. I said I was headed to Jordanelle. He said he would catch more fish than me… I said OK you’re on…
I was on the water by 4:30 AM. He was on the water at 6:30, but in his defense, he was packing extra weight in the form of passengers… I took my secret weapon…my canine fish pointer…
Me: Great day from the start…and only got better. Bass were taking top water lures and I had 12 boated and released before he even left the valley…
By 6 AM the swarms started to arrive in the form of other fishermen and those pesky waterskiers. The top water bite ended when all the other boat traffic started to churn the waves…but I had already caught 23 bass in assorted sizes.
After the top water bite slowed I switched to jerk baits yielding 1 fish, senko type baits yielding 11, robo worms yielded 3, and then I switched to gulp minnow…the rest is history…
The most fish in any one spot was 26… By the end of the day the big fish was 5.5 lbs. The picture isn’t that great. Still haven’t taught the dog to click the camera…
Total bag for today…149 bass and one sorry rainbow. Now I know what you’re all thinking…you’re thinking BS…with a capital B…so…to keep score, every twentieth fish I took a picture with my cell phone and sent it to my adversary…up at Echo. No brag…just fact…
He said they, he and his guests caught around 30 fish…
He left the water at 1 PM…I left the water at 2 PM…after I ran out of gulp…
I should have wagered him with a seafood dinner…but…good fishing and bragging rights will have to do…
We also hit the Nelle this morning. I got there at 05:30 and saw your truck in the parking lot again. I figured you must of got a real early start since it was just cracking daylight. We had a pretty good day ourselves. We got 6 real nice browns, a few rainbows and we did not keep track of the bass. It was not any where near 149 though. We left at about 12:30. Too many recreational boats and waverunners by then. I tried to keep an eye out for your boat but the fishing was so good I could’nt look up too often. Maybe I will see you next time.
I ran into Brent at Cabelas and he told me about the great day you had on the Jordanelle. Days like the day you had makes you want to go fishing every day. Great job bassrods I am going to hit up the Nell soon. PS cabelas is out of smelt.
We (Apocalypse, doggonefishin and I) also fished Jordanelle yesterday and got an early start also. We were at the gate a little after 6, no attendant and no spikes, either. They must have changed their policy about official opening times. Fishing-wise, we caught smallies and two bonus largemouths. We got good numbers but not as “well” as Bassrods.
Hey Cliff…I think that I caught one of your big ones that broke you off in the brush the other day. You made some post a few days ago about losing a couple of big fish to the brush, but still boated a number of others over 3lbs. Well, I caught a fish today that had a hook still in his throat with a Gulp minnow attached! Not only that, but the weight was still hanging from the tag end of the line and it was one of those fancy mojo weights you use to drop-shot with. Just so you know I got an official size on it…it measured out at 13 1/2". hehe
ha, sorry, I couldn’t resist. Actually, I don’t think the fish I caught today was one of yours. I think it probably belonged to one of your Gulp minnow converts. I lied, it didn’t have one of your fancy Mojo weights on it. It actually had one of those little bell sinkers tied to the end of it and the hook was tied only like 6" up from the weight. Didn’t quite look like how you rig up your minnows. I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw the gulp minnow on the hook in its throat though. It’s amazing how many people you’ve converted to that thing…
I take it that those pics are for some sort of contest. They let you submit pics of just the mouth of the fish and the scale reading. Who’s to say someone is not pulling on the lower portion of the fish bringing the weight up. Sounds like people could cheat pretty east. Just a thought.
Well if you look you can see both of my hands one holding the scales and the other holding the paper…But I could have my 12 lb anchor tied to the tail…There is an old saying, If you cheat you will be caught…And yes it is for a tournament of those who are sponsored by Mojo and Parasite most are back east but out of 246 or so I’m in the lead for now…
I don’t think I’ve ever launched at Jordanelle after 6:30 am. I have yet to see the gate closed. That would be a real bummer if they only opened the gate at 7am.
I am taking my wife to jordanelle next friday and i would like her to catch alot of bass, where is a good spot up there that she will have fun… how deep or just fish shoreline??? any help would be great… thanks… she outfished me a pineview and now i would like her to outfish me at the nell… I am trying to get her to enjoy fishing. I still cant believe I got her to hold a slimy carp up for a pic… lol
