Jordan-ee

I was at Jordanelle on Saturday. I thought the kokanee might be a little cold in the morning, wasn’t thinking of myself at all, so we arrived at around 11:30 and had a lights out afternoon until about 4:00. We got them on the surface early going down to 35 feet by 4:00. A couple of nice ones in the 18" category. Most were 15-16". We got 11 in the boat, but lost 2-3 times that over 4 hours. And, strangely enough, not a single trout. Every fish we saw was a salmon.

Wow, great report, best I’ve read from The Nelle in a while, glad to read someone is doing good there. Did any certain color work better than another?

Pink and orange were the ticket down to about 35 feet. I had a pink hottail and an orange hottail that did well on the surface. We were hitting on both colors so I didn’t change anything from there.

When something is working, no reason to change. You were catching them on both the surface and at 35’? Did the larger fish come from 35’?

We had planers out on the surface, we had a flat line out the back at probably about 20 feet. We had downriggers stacked at 10, 15, 30, and 35. All of them caught fish. I don’t think they were deeper than that, but I know they were at 35. The larger fish came from the top downrigger rods, I think; the rods that were 10-15 feet down.

Thanks for the info, interesting that the larger fish came from more shallow water. On the planner board setups, were you using any weight to get the lures below the surface? When we run those setups, we usually use a 1/4 oz inline weight to get the lures just below the surface but heavy dodgers will do the same thing.

No, I didn’t have any weights on the planers. But I do use the Kokanee Creek skateboard dodgers on the planers to make sure they get in the water. Some of that is speed dependent, but they were definitely underwater and picking up fish probably in the top 10 feet.

Nicely done, it’s good to hear about some success up there. I was hoping to hit it either Friday or Saturday and not sure the weather will cooperate. Hopefully they stay hungry for a while!

The NWS forecast for Heber City on Friday is calling for temps in the 40s/50s, winds up to 10mph, and very little chance of rain. I’m thinking I’ll be there on Friday. I almost never do weekends unless taking somebody with me that still has to ‘work’ for a living. :slightly_smiling_face:

The water was 47.6 degrees last Saturday. I expected them to be more sluggish than they were. They didn’t seem to mind the cold. Although I imagine the cold front going through this week will take a couple days for them to recover from.

Also, forgot to mention, every fish was caught on the back hook of the squid. Pretty interesting. I think the fish were more curious than aggressive on Saturday. That explains the number of hit and runs we got too.

That makes sense
