I had an appointment this morning, so I called Brian to talk him into an afternoon trip with me. It didn't take that much coercing and I picked him up at 2:30 and we hit the water wide open. It was HOT, so we headed to some "vertical structure" that was starting to get some shade on it. Things were slow but we finally found a spot holding a few fish and managed close to 20 keepers including several in the 13" class. I also picked a nice chunky spot before we moved on to try a few docks. We added a couple more before deciding to make a run upriver. TVA was really ripping water and a couple of spots were almost unfishable but we locked in on a deep hole that was sheltered from the wind and current somewhat and proceeded to start nailing some quality fish. As we reached the 30 keeper mark, mother nature unloaded on us and we had to run for cover. We slid into a dock slip upriver a bit just as the wind, rain and lightening hit and we were surprised to see the owners walking down to us with drinks in hand. We proceeded to spend the next 90 minutes drinking and visiting with two of the nicest people you could hope to meet. They're names are Jesse and Maria and guys, if you read this, THANK YOU for the hospitality. I hope we can return the favor sometime. We headed back around 8:45 and made one quick stop and a few casts to add a couple more to the tally. We finished with 32 keeper crappie, no "tarps" but some really nice fish, all released. TWK stayed with his outlaw special for the most part and I threw pearl with a tail light and we both opted for the 16th oz. head in the deeper water we were fishing. We hated to lose some of our prime fishing time to the storms but we made a couple of new friends because of it. Can't be upset about that.
