I do allot of fly swaps in the cold. Got like 5 going right now but here is a few of my offerings:

You can tell it has been cold cause getting me to sit down and tie is like pulling teeth, but once there, I can’t stop!
the steel head fly you posted… i use something very close to nail 99% of my browns on the weber above echo only with the gray body mine has a brown or green hackle… 22/20 or 18 only
I thought you were using a pupa or an emerger?
I don’t know about tying one of these in 20’s. the deer hair is almost the thickness of the hook shank length…LOL
Maybe a fuzzy floss body and the hackle could work.
barrs emerger on top, my little secret on the bottom… what i use on bottom isent tied with deer hair, i had to ask someone to tie it for me after some playing around… but like i said its damn close
