I think carp will eat anything that tastes good to us. Getting them to take a fly is something different, though.

thanks for the info.. I know some of the lakes in my area have carp but also know that cats tend to stay on or near the bottom I figured these may work.. its also nice to know that trout may do the same thing.. I may, if I get a chance to work some of these up, try suspending them off the bottom.. maybe off a floating instead of sinking line.. rigged with a small foam indicator..
btw.. after you have done the epoxy head, what material are you using for the rest of it.. I am no expert.. but it looks like maybe deer or elk hair???

Those will catch anything guaranteed. They compare to a micro jig and you can catch anything on jigs. Just ask Tube Dude

I may actually get to go fishing for the first time tomorrow. It’s been an up and down winter up here in Ontario. Just when it gets cold enough for ice fishing we get warm weather for long enough to make the ice dangerous.
The winter pond that I fish for rainbows is usually wide open when i have to work and freezes over again when I have time to fish. Today would have been perfect as the owner emailed to tell me it was 7 degrees Celsius up there and his pond was wide open. I’m off tyomorrow so my friend and I are going to go even though it’s going to drop back down to minus 8 tonight.

..thanks for the confirmation on my novice suspicsions.. I am gonna have to force myself to sit down and tie up some flies.. I got material and recipes.. just have not sat down to do them.. like the bipolar worm.. the booby fly.. a couple of chrominoids.. and of course this one ..

Gee MacFly , I just saw our 2 handles in proximity and noticed you have 55 after yours while I have 89 after mine. If those were our ages I’d be in trouble.
Looking on the bright side I hope I’m still capable of doing what I love to do best at that age. There’s nothing better than “floating and flying”. (This is a family site so any one who disagrees with me that other stuff doesn’t count.)

I fish these on the bottom in shallow water on a full floating line with about a 9 foot leader. I use a Palsa pinch on strike indicator on the leader near the junction with the flyline.
The rest of the material on these is bleached elk hair. Deer hair also works if it has decent tips. The aim is to flare it up so that it hides the hook point.
