I upgraded from an old 12V 36lb PowerDrive to a new Terrova 24 volt 80lb in a 60" shaft. I also wanted the built in transducer which I got in CHIRP, not mega down or side imaging.  This is so I can add a Hummingbird Helix and have them work together while my Garmin will provide Side Imaging for me.
This year I will be running 2 LA batteries from Interstate, just because they are almost new and it looks like the LI’s are getting smaller which will help with my battery location on my boat.

I am just getting the motor mounted on the boat today, but if all goes as expected I should be on the water very soon.
I am looking forward to spot lock and using the fob as well as the foot pedal.  That was a big part of my choice, I wanted BOTH the foot control and the fob.  Fob for E-Z and foot control for when my hands are full.
Was on sale at ABPS for $$2,000, with tax 2,200 but my military discount canceled that so I’ve got 2K into it so far but need to buy a quick release bracket.  I’ve already got the 60 amp breaker, the 4/0 tinned cables and a Perko #1, or #2 or Both or all off battery switch.

No wires over heating for you. Them are some girthy cables. Take some wrastlin to get them wired to connections

While we are on the subject and before I head off to BPS, what quick release mount do all of you prefer.  I had the sliding type on the PD, it was fine, no issues at all.  I am looking at and reading reviews for the newer style with the screw knob on the side and don’t see any advantage to that, I am also looking at the cam lock type but see there are 3 different models, a plain, one that slides 6" and one that slides 10".
The last type is the puck type where the puck remains on the boat, and you set an outer doughnut that is attached to the motor down around it and push a double pin holder into place.  I’ve had this type before and if I remember it could be a struggle to line up a heavy 24 volt motor and get the pins slid into place.

What do you all have and how do you like them?

I just noticed a couple days ago the Farmington Cabela ad sign above the Station Park Shopping Mall now says Bass Pro Shop.  I haven’t been in that store since Dec 2024 when it was still Cabela’s.  Anybody know when that happened?  Just curious.

Checking the Internet, I see the Lehi store is still called Cabela’s.

I then bought the longer mount and was able to get the right angle and clearance and have it secure. I still have the puck style mount - if anyone can use it, let me know - happy to donate it to the cause.

For those who run a 24V motor, are you running 2ea 12V LI batteries in series or 1ea 24V LI battery ?

I’m running two 12 vdc, 140 aH smart batteries in series.  I bought them in February at $615 for both including UT tax.  Now they are $360 each plus tax.  The 100 aH batteries are a little less expensive at $290.  I went with the 140 aH because I don’t have a gas kicker to help push the boat.  If you have a gas kicker to help push, the 100 aH will do the job for probably a full day of fishing.

I have a smaller boat like brookie, I still don’t know if I’m satisfied with my mount system. Just be aware that the quest motors are roughly 110 pounds and it is an awkward 110 pounds.
I am thinking of going with the deck support plate and remounting. I just feel like in the wrong conditions. It can end up like a can opener situation. On the battery side I’m running three 100 amp hour lithiums. I was at the gorge this week and I only charged the batteries because I wanted to try out my generators that I got a deal on KSL. I really enjoy launching with the remote. Every little bit of physical activity I can save in the launch and retrieval helps me to put that time and energy into Fishing. You just have to go over your steps repeatedly so you don’t drop her in and watch her float away. Some of the features are amazing, the drift mode is one of my favorites, especially pulling steel. It’s amazing technology.

I have a pretty open and overhanging bow with a flat surface, we will see.

Which motor do you have? Minn Kota PowerDrive V2 and I upgraded it for iPilot (i.e. remote with all the bells/whistles). Mine is 12V and 55lbs thrust. Plenty for my 17.5’ boat. I can run it for at least 5 hours while shore-fishing Mantua, Newton, and Hyrum. I can spot-lock deep jigging locations at Bear Lake, Flaming Gorge and Rockport for hours with one battery. NOTE #1: My friend has a 24V Ulterra that self-deploys and has trouble with it for the last 2 years. It won’t deploy, turn on, etc. Must be some type of electrical gremlin but I think they are too complicated and simply break too easily. NOTE #2: Be cautious of using Lithium Ion batteries if you fish during the winter, unless you store your boat somewhere warm or not fish at all and then pull the batteries out and store them in a warm area. My friends in MI who fish until the lakes freeze up, have switched back to lead acid batteries since the Lithiums just don’t stand up the cold weather. Now if you don’t fish in the winter, then it might not be an issue? Just do a google search online and you’ll see the issues guys are having in the cold climates with lithiums. Note #3: I do not use it for “trolling”. I use my 9.9 Merc ProKicker 4stroke for that. I do use it to help “steer” while trolling even though I have my main motor and kicker tied together with a steering link.

What features drove you to get one? I liked it since it was 12V and still had plenty of thrust and I could spend just $400 for the iPilot Upgrade Kit so I can control it with a remote (not a pedal) and have the ability to follow GPS paths, a compass heading or spot-lock when I want it.

Are you satisfied with it? VERY!

Ease of maintenance or maintaining? So far there has been none! I make sure to face the propellor down and then turn it on for about 2 seconds so it “flings” any remaining water out from the housing when it is cold (below freezing) so nothing cracks or freezes solid.

Is or was price an issue? No. I could have went to a 24V system but didn’t want to have to carry an extra battery. I also think that 55lbs/thust is more than I actually need. If I have to put it on the highest setting, then the wind is probably too much to fish in to begin with. The extra $400 is worth every penny for iPilot.

Are there any regrets of your purchase? None at all.

Update on li-time 2 “12”VOLT (actually 12.8 ) 100 AH volt with Bluetooth monitoring, wired in series . I bought them a couple months back on s flash sale and got the extra 8% of the top I’ll have to look up the cost but it was a great deal not much more than good lead acid and so much less weight and should last several times longer!
For “24 volt system got my Minnkota Terrova 80lb it has foot control and a remote not a fan of the foot control never use it, the remote hangs on lanyard around my neck, it is improved over my old model remote it shows clearly the motor direction speed etc. so you don’t have to look to see which direction it’s going.
I used the Terrova 80 to steer when breaking in kicker for about 3 hours at Jordy, then fished Powell for 3 long days 8 hours of fishing, plus minus each day ! I used spot lock often and we were working shoreline in some pretty stiff wind conditions .2 of the 3 days . I did not charge the batteries between trips or during the Powell 3 day trip. Love the blue tooth monitoring in real time I spent a little time checking amp draw at various power settings, and watched how spot lock used amperage. Checked battery usage and status during the day and could tell I would not have any problems for power this trip without a recharge!

** I just hooked the batteries it up to the Li-Time 24 Volt 20 Amp charger, blue tooth monitoring shows the battery’s will be fully charged in 2.4 hours. In reading 20 amps for 100 AH batterys is a good ratio for battery performance and life. You can get chrgs at higher amps but supposedly battery’s will not last as long when using higher amp charger? 10 amp charger is a little less money and work fine, it would take twice as long to charge as the 20 amp charger, which is fine if you are not in a hurry or charging overnight.

Wow Pat - that’s great news.  I bought two Li Time 140 aH, 12 v batteries back in February for $615 delivered direct from Li Time.  They were at 50% charge when I got them.  Installed in the boat, charged both with the installed MK 3-bank charger, and then did the balancing process for 24 hours.  Hope to be on Willard tomorrow for maiden voyage.  I have the Ulterra Quest 24 v installed on my boat and don’t have a kicker, so will be trolling 100% with the Ulterra.  Maybe I’ll get a couple or 3 days of use between charges based on your results.  I guess I’ll know in a week or 2.

Right all should work out great. When I got mine they were at very low charge, I heard they do that for safer shipping. Sometimes if they are too low the charger won’t read them , so you have to hook them up to another battery or additional charger so the charger will “recognize” it’s connected to battery. I have a 12 volt smart charger, it started charging right away no problem, even at the low voltage. I charged them separately with 12 volt charger, then hooked them together parallel for 24 hours as recommended to equalize/balance them and everything worked great. I now charge them with the 24 volt 20ah charger. They charged to 100% in just under 3hrs as the Bluetooth monitoring had said.
You will be able to check your amp draw on the app at various settings you will quickly get an idea of how long you will be able to run on them, I think you will get a good number of hours out of each charge! Good luck! I’m thinking I want to get out again soon small chance tomorrow, likely the next good day I’m chasing kokes or walleye!

I finally took the plunge, ordered the Minnkota Ulterra 60" 24V, staying with AGM batteries. Exhausted any discounts thru Cabalas getting final bill down from $2899.99 to $2107. 99…I’m going to enjoy the self-deploy feature
