This post is not for debating the pros and cons of tournament fishing. It is simply to guage if there is any interest from the bft crowd for a Tournament trail along the Wasatch front.
EDIT: This is about fun not about money ! I fish team bass tournaments with my father because we really enjoy it. The tournament aspect adds alot to the experience for us, it is not for everyone. If you enjoy fishing team tournaments let me know if you are interested.

would be cool to attend especially since i would fish it on the fly rod. i would have a few questions and such. one of which is why twin? that little lake would turn into a zoo with people zooming around in their boats if a ton of people decided to show up for it.
No more a zoo than any reservoir in Utah on a saturday. I have fished tournaments on twin for 15 + years never had a problem. These tournaments if they happen would only be 10 to 15 boats anyway [fishin]
I would love to fish for real money, I just don’t have much of it.[frown]. Sign me up, however, I would need to go with someone that had a boat. Great idea though

Last year I fished the Maniac Willard Wiper tournament along with 50 other boats. There were competitors from all walks of fishing life. And, even with 50 boats, it didn’t seem crowded at all. It was pretty fun … lots of rain but lots of fun. I hope they do it again this year.
But then again, even though wiper are hybred bass, I don’t think that wiper is the kind of “bass” that this post is about.
I would be in. I would like to know the payout structure.. 100% , 90%. Are you going to have paper tournaments?? I believe if you want to have weigh in tournaments your going to need a COR permit which is around 150.00. I gotta bass boat and would consider fishing them.
1 or 2 day events? Big fish pot, team of the year? All utah regs (ie, bait, trolling, two polls) ? At 170 bucks a pop for 10-15 boats thats not “real” money. Like a grand for first? Its not big money that scares alot of people from fishing bass or any other tournys. Its trying to be a mini BASS circuit with a hand full of guys that want the glitz and glamour to go with it. Make it about money and a good time, not overpriced glass trophies (got 2 of em, would rather have had the money[crazy]) and who has the sparkliest ranger or skeeter, and you will get alot more interest. Tournies have a hard time taking off in this state for some of those very reasons. Dont insult your average fisherman by saying most wont fish for the BIG MONEY and expect to get more than 10-15 boats signed up. Take a lesson from the annual wiper tourny and make it fun and welcoming. Or dont. Seen too many utah “pro” bass guys that take it way too serious. Dont be scared to be putting your $60,000 ranger back on the trailer after having your butt wooped by a guy in a 14ft tinner. That guy next year will have 3 or 4 of his buddies fishing it and before ya know it your fielding 40-60 boats. Food for thought.
$170 not real money ? Maybe not to a high roller like you but to the rest of us who enjoy tournament fishing but cant afford to travel the country and do it as a profession. Some of us want a tourney trail close to home with a chance to make 5 hundred to a thousand at a lake close to home on a saturday or sunday.
I have been fishing Tournaments in Utah and surrounding states since 1987 so save the lecture for someone else.

Youre the one who made a comment about not alot of people are willing to fish for “real money”. That I find insulting to me and alot of other fishermen. I know personaly of quite a few people who wont fish them because of the elitist attitude of a handfull of tourny fishers. No pissing contest, just your comments were out of line for a public forum visited by thousands of average anglers. There have been quite a few tournys and even circuits in utah but none that have been sustained for very long with good numbers or results. You have to have public support to make it work. The tourny has to welcome everyone and make everyone feel welcome. The wiper tourny would have generated 50 replies by now, because its fun and non judgemental. The walleye tournys in wyoming are a $500 entry fee and regularly field over 100 boats. Not super rich guys either. Im blue collar and work 60+ hours a week just to fish 2 or 3 a year, far from a high roller. But I am willing to do that cause they are fun and most of the people are your good friend whether you place 80th or 1st. *Thats *the kinda atmosphere that keeps people coming back and making a great circuit. Get your circuit together, hell, I’ll fish em, so will others, but if its just another bunch of perfectionist bassers then it will turn into small group of the same teams gettin together every year to stroke each others egos. Been there, seen it. I like the idea of all the lakes your listing, close for alot and will save on travel. Hope it works out, just dont insult the majority to start your recruiting campaign.
Mike4cobra clearly you have taken my real money comment out of context . The fact is most people talk a good game but when it comes down to it they wont show up and throw their hard earned cash down. Not a jab at anyone just a fact of life.
I have been fishing tournaments for a long time as I mentioned, and I have seen it all, I have fished 5 boats tournaments and I have fished 150 boat tournaments I do it because I enjoy it.
The fish don’t care how nice your boat is, or how much your fishing rods are worth, neither do I.
I just want to know how many people want a tourney trail close to home and will actually support it if its is done right.
I would love to do that but you would have to fo a boater and non boater it sounds like all you do is register as a boater or non boater and you draw a non boater every tournament and then there is your team this is a great idea though
