Idaho fishing question

I am thinking of going into Idaho and do a little fishing, I know I need a nonresident fishing license but what about my boat. If I take it do I also need a Idaho license plus my Utah license on it. I have boated in Idaho but not fished from a boat up there. Thanks for any info anyone might have.

You don’t need to license your boat in Idaho but you will need to have it inspected to get the Mussel Certificate.

Thanks Wiperhunter2 for the info.

**You will need to buy a permit that is applied to your boat for about $20. The permits are available at the Idaho Walmarts.

Are you talking about the sticker for the mussle? or a permit to license your boat?

Any boat with a motor has to purchase the IS sticker if you’re a non resident, and you have to get checked at the Malad check point where you get a certificate you display also.
I’m collecting the cert’s too and should have an impressive collection by the end of October!

Don’t bother there isn’t any fish in Idaho[:p]

You can get the Invasive Species Sticker online also. The sticker then needs t be diplayed onthe left side of your boat. You will go through a check point in Malad where they will inspect your boat for wet spots, etc. You will also likely have to drive over a wash mat prior to launching depending on the lake.

You can get the sticker online. It runs more like $23 I think. I got one, then left the boat home for my Idaho trip. Contribution to a good cause I guess…

If you register your boat in Idaho - the invasive sticker is not required - it’s part of your boat registration.
But I’ve also been told you don’t need the sticker if you’re only in Idaho a few times. But I understand it makes the inspection process go a lot quicker if you have the sticker.

Hey Curt - you’d mentioned there was a link on here to getting the Utah sticker - certification. I’d like to do that so I don’t have to keep scratching a new date on that sheet sitting in my window. But I don’t seem to find it.

they also inspect right across the boarder heading into Preston. we passed it once at 6am and no one was there, i called the number on the sign 2 seperate times and was told both times by 2 different people if no one is there you can drive past it. by the time i was done with the second call they showed up and gave us the cert. the guys that inpected us said the same thing about passing the inspection area, BUT if we were stopped at a lake without the form we would pay the fine.

But I’ve also been told you don’t need the sticker if you’re only in Idaho a few times.

HUH? If you have a boat over 10’ (any kind of boat) or you have a motor on ANY size, you need the sticker even if it is for one minute. The minute that boat touches the water.

The reason the sticker is $23. is the $3. fee to do it on line which I still don’t get that one.[crazy]

It is on the boat and motor board:

Just Google" Idaho Invasive Species" and you will get there.

No fish in Idaho huh

SSSHHH! Duh!

I can’t find a specific quote on the sticker, but as far as registering a boat in Idaho - there is a note about “fewer than 60 days”

You must have an Idaho Certificate of Registration and validation stickers to operate your vessel legally on Idaho waters. The only exceptions are:

* Manually propelled vessels (for example: canoes, rafts, and kayaks)
* Float tubes (without a motor)
* Certificate of RegistrationSailboards
* Vessels properly registered in another state and using Idaho waters for 60 or fewer consecutive days
* Vessels documented by the U.S. Coast Guard

Other Facts About Titling and Registering

* The following vessels must be titled:
o Any vessel with a permanently attached mode of propulsion and model year 2000 or newer (for example: inboards, stern drives, personal watercraft, and sailboats)
o Vessels over 12 feet in length with an outboard motor

So since my boat is registered in Utah, and is 12 feet, not over 12 - I don’t need a Idaho registration to take my boat there, once in a while. As for the mussel-sticker, that’s another story.

You don’t have to register. The information you quoted was for Idaho residents.

You DO need the Idaho invasive species sticker, and you need to stop at the inspection stations if they are open.

I don’t register mine in Idaho..you are right, you don’t have to if you live in another state, just the state you live in.
BUT, Invasive species sticker you MUST have on any boat 10’ and longer and any boat Any size with a motor.

I think you misunderstood me.

Looks like the last fish in Idaho was caught darn! He must have been a pretty desperate fish to be caught by somebody with that hat on though…[:p]
