Ice Report / White Fish

My little waterfall pond had ice one it as well, all day yesterday, so you could be right Jeff, guess we will see. On KSL outdoors they mentioned the whitefish run was getting near. You could always contact Mike or Scott and see if they have heard anything. In the Fall, I always take my Bimini top off my boat and leave it off, until the late Spring when the sun starts getting hot. Now if you had a full enclosure on your boat that would be different but that’s just the way I do it. Hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving as well.

Hey Curt, figured I wouldn’t bother Mike or Scott until I think it’s going, I suspect it will be a week or so before they start seeing anything show up at all… Just wanting to prime the pump and see if anyone heard anything about an early start on the whitefish… On the bimini, it really helps shield the breeze in my boat so when there is a cold wind blowing down my neck between the top and the windshield it makes it fishable… Sides would be great, but makes it a little harder to fish out of… Should have asked Shawn about putting some snaps on the front so I could put a window extension between the windows and the bimini, that would really make it a lot more comfortable… but then I’d want a full enclosure.. best to not get too cushy or I’ll decide it’s warmer at home and not go… yeah right now I finally have some time I can go, I doubt I’ll take that option… Anyway appreciate the holiday wish… Guess we’re the gathering place this year, so expect that will be a busy time… Later Jeff

Hey Shane I know you’re right on that prop, I just have tough time putting a new prop on a boat I mostly run at Cutler knowing I’ll probably find another stump or shallow rock out there next trip… Guess I need a rubber prop that flex back into shape after a ding…

Hey Got an ice Update, got ice on my irrigation pond this morning… Usually start to see some on the back sloughs shortly after I get ice on my pond.  So who knows we may get ice after all this year…  Later Jeff

Our pond has been getting iced over for a week now, so we’re hoping it won’t be too long before we can ice fish as well. That of course depends on if we get a freaky warm up. But it has had checking out all our ‘ice’ gear once again, LOL.!

We too are the gathering place once again so we’ve been busy getting some things all pre-prepared that we can. I’m telling the kids this may be our last year to be the ‘hosts’ we’ll see if that pans out. We look forward to them taking the reins after this Thanksgiving. It’ll be nice to just attend and bring a dish or two as assigned.

A general rule of thumb is each number you go down in pitch will raise your rpm roughly 50-100 rpm.
Diameter will also effect that number.

I’m glad Shane knew that info because I wasn’t sure. I usually just contact a prop pro, if I’m not buying the exact same prop.

Thanks Shane, Curt, good info to have when I’m looking for a replacement… Thanks Jeff

Not Fishing yet, but yesterday I found ice on the mudpuddles  clear till the sun went down… Okay I know you can’t fish puddles, but it’s a good sign that we may get ice sometime this year… And with the cooling trend in the ten day forecast, maybe the high lakes will start to tack up…  We usually are dreaming about fishing Henry’s this time of year and I haven’t heard a peep about it this year..

Was also wondering if anyone has heard anything about the Whitefish at Bear Lake?  I know this year is all mixed up and the run has been getting later and later every year, but isn’t Thanksgiving the usual start of folks looking for the spawn to start?

*Okay maybe I just got most of my summer projects wrapping up and I’m looking to go fishing soon, in fact I ended up taking my Bimini top into Shawn Atkinson Upholstery in Logan, he did a great job sewing it back together for a really reasonable price… I’ll try to get that back on the boat this week… Guess I should have taken the prop in to get it straightened, but it still works and it’s time to go fishing, so hope it holds together… *

*Hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!   Later Jeff *
