ice fishing!

If my hands are cold , it is because I’m catching fish . But I have a propane heater for quick warm ups of the flangies . I really hate to wear gloves but do . LOL Can’t wait for some hard water now .

as for the 2004 official B.F.T ice fishing God!
i would say I do some ice fishing evey now and then..
but thats not tell nov sometime..
dude on fish?

note that is the first time and only time i have ever uesd my official title as ifg 2004..
fish on dudes..

Does anyone else find it ironic how much some of us fishermen are looking forward to COLD weather?!? I know I can’t wait to bust out the auger.

Hey Mememe, I bought some cheap gloves at Shopko for about $5. (they are actually women’s gloves - but don’t tell anyone - I am trying as hard as I can to keep this fact a secret). They fit tight and I can still handle my fishing gear. Then when I don’t need extra dexterity I add some snowboarding mittens. If It’s really cold I will add the hand warmers to the mittens.

A tent really helps more than anything (in my opinion). I bought a dome tent and cut a hole in the bottom. I also bought a catalytic propane heater (designed for use in tents). It gets quite warm.

But the tent (especially a silly dome tent) limits mobility. This is why I went for the gloves/mittens combo and really warm boots instead.

My Dad had something pronounced Raynods syndrome - I don’t know how its spelled. It gave him bad circulation in his fingers causing them to go numb quite easily. The doctor gave him some medicine that really helped.

It’s funny how much different people are as far as getting cold. I once wore two pairs of wool socks and snow boots and my feet went numb before my friends feet got cold - and he was wearing wet tennis shoes. Sometimes life just isn’t fair is it Mememe?

PS can you tell by my relentless rambling that I am excited for Ice fihing?

LMAO!

If only IFG was here to see it! I’m sure he’d have something to say. LOL! Speaking of IFG, He’s been in Alabama for the last six weeks and will be home this weekend only to spend a week at home then off for a middle east tour. Can we say downtown Iraq? Very little ice fishing for him this year. Maybe the tailend of the winter will see the IFG in his element and not the sands and heat of the middle east.

I’m dedicating my ice season to the IFG til he gets back. You I-rock, boy!

I still hope to get in a few more backpacking and tube trips this summer/fall but nothing gets my blood boiling like the thought of sitting on a frozen lake next to a mess of nice Perch!

FM

P.S. There’s still an open invitation for you and your family to join us out on Echo this winter if you want.

I am in there with the bunch. I have a two man ice hut and a little heater that keeps it nice and toasty. All I need is a better auger. I have a ten inch manual auger, but have a hard time getting it to stay sharp and bite well.

Thank You Everyone for you helpful hints, Some of them I have tried & the Others I will definately try!!. Ice fishing season will be here real soon (It’s never to early to be thinking of the ice) & I’m Planning on having warm fingers this year! LOL hashbaz, your secret is safe with me, No one will know You wear womens gloves!!.

Some cool weather would be nice as I spend my day playing in the water the dirt, some times both which makes mud, under the hot sun with sweat running down my face I would give just about anything to be sitting on a large slab of ice ripping the lips off of fish.. Seems how I was only a few points behind fuzzyfisher for the title of IFG I’m looking forward to see who will be in the challenge to lay claim to the title this year with the former IFG being gone. However the only way I will be able to make my weekly ice fishing trip will be if there is to much snow on the valley floor that I can not work. It is 90 days until ice on the first lake or 90 days until vacation time. Crap 90 day to get 180 days worth of work done.

[:sunglasses:](javascript: addTag(‘cool’))I hear ya ocean!! Loud and clear, bud. I was just thinking about how much I miss ice fishing the other day, myself! The first lake to get hard water around here (or one of the first) is Scofield. It usually has safe ice (at least 4 inches is safe ice) on the Thanksgiving weekend, and the fishing is red hot around that time. Let me know if you want to go with me, and I’ll give you a few pointers, etc. if you want. I’ve got ice fishin’ at Scofield down pretty good now (don’t remember the last time I was skunked there-knock on wood…)

After attending HFT’s ice fishin’ class last year, my catch rate went WAY up, and I can’t wait to get out there this year!!

i also can’t wait till hard water. getting out in the cold and fresh air
makes life simple again.

Hey Ceasar ol’ buddy, Last year was my first year and I’m hooked too. As much as I enjoy fishing in the summer, ice fishing was the most fun of all!

Hey that sounds great!I need to go ice fishing with someone who has the equipment and knowledge.I am really looking forward to some ice fishing! Did i just say that? And i am florida can you figure that one out!

Yeah dave i know what ya mean !I love the summer but the heat gets to you sometimes and makes you want to do some ice fishing.

OOHHH!!! I get chills just thinking about it. Thanks!:face_with_tongue:(javascript: addTag(‘:P’))

I may only have a 1970’s “burnt Michelin Man” down suit instead of a $300 set of matched coveralls. I may only have a $40, 8" hand auger instead of a $250 12" power auger. I may walk instead of ride out on a $5000 4x4 4-wheeler or brand new $6500 snow machine, pulling a $400 sled/tent behind it, full of $2000 in color graphs, rods, reels, and other gear. BUT…

You bet your bootie that I’ll be out there!

See you on the ice.

Ah ICE the great equalizer, the poor man’s boat…only there months to go, more or less.

Ice fishin is the only way to fish! I do 90% of all my fishin ontop of the ice! I’ve already gotton all my icefishin stuff ready to go for the first trip in Nov

If anyone is wondering what a burnt Michelin man suit is it is hard to described. Just picture the Michelin or marshmallow man after he was on fire and some little kiddie had a hard time blowing him out. Curtis’ suit is a sight to see, especially if seen by an artificial sun, right Tommy.

i have to thin down my ice tackle i have to much pm me before you go to the tackle store i have a few things cheep

Thanks to BLM introducing me to mack fishing at Bear Lake, I really struggle with whether to go ice fishing, or to go vertical jigging from my boat at Bear Lake if it is not frozen – which is usually the case. Last year was the first year that I really took ice fishing seriously. I have got to cut down on what I haul out on the ice. If something has been repeatedly drug out on the ice and not ever been used, I probably don’t need to keep dragging it out there. After loading up with all of the NECESSARY TOYS (two-man shack, fishfinder, power auger, AquaVu camera, and heater) it doesn’t take many other items to over do it. It would also help if I would drop about 40 or 50 pounds of extra baggage that has accumulated around my waist, but that is another story.

The heck with that! Go buy a good used snowmobile and bring it all!
