They work just fine, but as has already been stated, they will not hook every fish that sets it off. My recommendation would be to use a very stout rod with it. A light action tip rod will not hook as many fish as a stout rod with no light tip. The rod snap is what will set the hook and the light tip has too much give to be effective most of the time.
