how is the ice?
Good question my farm pond in Cache Valley that has been very similar to Hyrum all year has gotten a lot stronger the last few days so I hope Hyrum is still safe… I’ll be watching to find out…
Talked to a couple folks who hit it last Sunday, and it wasn’t the ice to worry about, but the slush on top! Last trip, I was down to the last turn of the auger before breaking through. I’m sure the ice will be fine.
Planning to hit it Sat or Sun morn. I’d bet you’ll still see sleds and 4-wheelers out there. We’ve had a cold few nights. Can only hope this rain/sleet manages to melt some surface snow, then if it can get cold at night! 30 forecast.
Bring good boots, or you might have wet toes.
My buddy is headed out there tomorrow around 9am. Wish I could go with him. I will let you know something as soon as I hear back from him.

I’m-a thinnin’ all this rain/sleet might have beat down the slush monster a bit, and with the cold night - maybe froze it up some better. Don’t think it’d be quite like the glass-ice YOU got on back when. That was wicked (hope you don’t mind if I repost - I love this shot! -note bottom right)
I do need to up my trout stock a bit, then I’ll be ready for another round on the smoker. The freezer’s stash is gettin’ kinda sparse. I think I could get a couple to cooperate at Hryum. Sunday might be a good day for that…
My buddy is out on Hyrum as I am typing this, and he is saying there is no slush at all. And he says the edges are good as well. Too bad I am stuck at school until 4:30.
I tried a couple of rounds in the smoker this year and Im just not good at it!

Thanks for the reply I guess we really won’t know if it will be any good till that morning… Kind of hard to plan that far ahead this time of year.. I sure hate to see it end, this year has been great…
