I haven’t been out to Hyrum since it first iced over. Is it still good or has it slowed down?
If you mean Hyrum lake city based on the amount of people that where out there today then yes, in has slowed considerable. Hit it on a weekday or forget it. With the amount of noise and traffic today we where lucky to land 9 fish between 7 of us. Good freinds and fun day regardless but the amount of people just did not do it for me. That is what I get for going to a local pond on a saturday. Great day to be on the ice and good company though. Some very small perch and rainbows are what we caught. Nothing over 14 inches.
Lots of dinks, a few midrange, and one or two big guys still left in there. Get there really early before sunup or stay home is my experience.
Yep, it was hotter than a firecracker for about a week and a half, and then it pretty much stopped. That’s what happens when everyone and their dog (and their 4-wheelers) pound that lake.
If you fish it, get far away away from the masses and you might catch a few.
My brother, one of our friends, and I went out to Hyrum around 3 today and did just fine. Caught lots of perch (though lots were small) but still managed to pull out a few decent sized bows. Released most but for just a couple hours a fishing it was a good day for fishing…
Hope this helps someone (even though its a reply to my own post)
That place is hit and miss, for the most part. I was talking to some other folks that had knocked 'em dead one day, and didn’t catch squat the very next day.
IMO It’s all about timing and luck there at Hyrum. The less 4-wheelers and crowds, the better you’ll usually do.
We had an okay day, my 9 year old daughter was the winner with 4 fish on the ice and at least that many missed while she was watching three other poles as her younger brother was to busy with snacks.. total for the group was around 7..
the best part was the 100 plus people in the same area.. no need to fear falling in without having plenty of hands to help you out..
time to hit a new spot on the weekends..
It really is amazing to me how much that place gets hammered. I’m beginning to think there aren’t enough fish for all the fishermen! [;)]
has something to do with it being close and the good reports on Big Fish..
I fished Hyrum 3 times the week of the 4th-9th, and again today. Between three people each time we fished, we caught over 40 fish. On the 9th, a guy we didn’t know, but was fishing next to us, landed a brown that went about 4lbs. Not sure why people are saying it slowed down. I also had another friend and his buddy out there on the opposite end as us today, and they landed 35 fish, one 19.5 inch rainbow. Again, not sure why others don’t seem to have much success. Maybe we have been lucky. But we have enjoyed it and will continue to enjoy it.
Pictures are today’s keep and another day’s keep from a week and a half ago. Most of the one’s we caught today were from 15-17 inches, with a couple of smaller ones. Same as the second photo too.
