Hyrum on 29 Jan

Got to Hyrum about 11:00 AM. Drove my snowmobile with sleds in tow to the far end of the lake and started fishing in 36 feet of water. Set one line at 12 feet for trout and sent the other line to the bottom for perch. Tried there for an hour and caught two keeper perch and 4 trout in the 12โ€ to 15โ€ range. I put all the trout back.:sunglasses:

It was very slow for perch, so I moved another 500 yards or so away from the dam and set up in 32 feet of water. Put another 10 perch on the ice in about 45 minutes. I then changed lures and bait to try something new. It took about 5 minutes to finish off my limit of 20 perch with the new combination. And donโ€™t you want to know what it was?[;)]

It was the smallest Swedish Pimple in blaze orange w/ a treble hook. I tipped each hook with a pink spike. I could not get it all the way to the bottom without a hit. Damn that thing was hot.[:)]

I then packed up and headed back to the park launch.

All the perch kept were between 6โ€ and 7โ€. Nothing very big, but enough to make a couple of meals for me and my bride.

Ice conditions were not the best. I would break through to 4โ€ of slush every couple hundred yards or so. I would guess about 20 times during the round trip. It didnโ€™t stop me but slowed me down some. It also covered the first towed sled with slush. I think an ATV with FWD could probably handle it okay. The ice thickness was at least 6โ€ solid under the slush.

All in all, a very nice day with perch fillets as the prize. Life is good.[angelic]

Nice report Bob and thanks for the info on the lure of choice, at least for the day[;)]. I donโ€™t remember seeing that color before. Is that color of Pimple hard to find?

Sportsmans in Riverdale had plenty when I bought mine a couple of weeks ago. They are supposed to be an excellent lure for Kokanee through the ice as well.

Thanks, iโ€™m always looking for new kokanee lure.
